No - I'm not wanting to know where to find hi-cap 10/22 magazines. Those seem to be a popular topic on the gun forums lately. (Keeping my fingers crossed that my Wally-World carries them again.)
Just a simple question about free-floated barrels:
I'm not familiar with the AR-type target rifles, but how can the barrel be truly "free-floating". The handguard may not touch the barrel, but what about the gas tube? Does its contact with the barrel affect accuracy?
The gas tube in an AR is somewhat small and inconsequential, but what about the larger ones in some of the more accurate semi-autos like the H&K's - particularly the PSG-1?
With match-grade rifles, much emphasis is put on not having anything touch the barrels to upset the harmonics/vibrations, but how is this accomplished with gas-operated rifles? I've always wondered about this...
