This time I took my 7 year old out to check the zero on his deer rifle

He did a little shooting with a .22 to warm up.

Then we got out his deer rifle. It has an A2 style 7.62x39 upper from a Colt Blue Label gun with a Trijicon Reflex II sight. The Magpul CTR stock allows me to set up the length of pull for him and lock it in place so it doesn't rattle. The ammo is Winchester 123gr. Power Point factory loads.

Here is the hunter with his shooting gear.

He shot this at about 32 yards. The average distance that I've taken deer at on my farm is a little under 50 yards so this isn't an unreasonably short range. He got a little overconfident on that one shot. Zeroed like it is it hits about 1" high at 100 yards.

It's good to see fathers taking their children out hunting and spending quality time with them. Both of my 2 boys started hunting at age 6. Hunting trips make memories they never forget. Good looking young man there, congrats.
