I have a Thompson auto ord. 1911 5 inch. The serial # starts E00. dont know much about these so if anyone has some info it would be a great help

I don't know much about their long ago history, if their is one, but Thompson 1911's generally are the fancier versions of the Auto Ordnance line-up. They typically will have a beavertail grip safety, and other extended controls, while the Auto Ordnance versions are mostly GI setups.

The big deal is probably where it's made. Current Auto Ordnance guns are made in Worcester, Mass., and have a much better reputation than the older guns that were made in West Hurley, NY. The move was made around the year 2000, when Kahr bought the company.

Try calling the company. They can probably tell you some basic stuff like when it was made and their model number/designation. I don't know anyone that has any sort of directory on Thompson/AO 1911 info, they've never been all that popular.

I have one. Bought it used from a guy 20-ish years ago. It’s a basic 1911. Nothing fancy. I did pretty mine up a bit with a cerekote job and new sights

I bought mine in 1988 right after my first wife and I decided that we really didn’t like each other anymore. I still have the gun. It worked fine with ball ammo, but I had some work done on it not long after I bought it so that I could shoot LSWC ammo in IPSC and Steel Challenge courses.
It’s still a good shooter, just not pretty.

Goorah gunny. nice 1911
It got mileage. At one point I was putting 600 rounds a week through it practicing with the top shooters in the area at a place called The Range in Baker LA. One of the regular shooters was Jerry Miculek. My God that man was fast with that S&W Mod. 27.
I have two barrels for it. One for shooting regular ammo and one for light target loads.

Here is my Thompson/Auto Ordinance 1911 purchased in 1989. Operation was a bit flaky at first but a little polishing here and there made it function reliably with 230 FMJ or cast RN bullets.

I've added a low profile adjustable sights and replace the barrel removed from a Colt Series 70 Government Model that was converted to 38/45 Clerke. The Colt barrel, although used and not an ideal fit, did wonders for the accuracy of the gun.

The barrel bushing was replaced at the same time as the barrel.

Once given a bit of TLC, it has been a good shooter.
