Thompson Center Classic vs. 10/22

I posted the same thing over at rimfirecentral. I have been looking for a higher quality .22 semi and had settled on a 10/22 with new stock, barrel, trigger, and so on. Then I picked up a T-C Classic and fell in love. Can anyone talk me out of the 300$ Classic? I know that you can build a very accurate Ruger but I have several other projects to tinker with. The only drawback I see to it is you are limited to 10 round magazines but I am looking mainly to maintain and build my fundamentals. What are your thoughts????

I have a Thompson Classic.
it's a GREAT little rifle. Truly, it just exudes quality and it mounts perfectly every time. It builds itty bitty little groups if I do my part. It even has the fiber optic sight on the front.

Besides, EVERYONE has a 10/22, only classy people like us have a Thompson semi-auto classic.

Seriously, I love mine, it's a fine quality piece. You can't go wrong.

But tell me why you'll stick to the Ruger? I was all fired up to buy one, but the Classic I am looking at is only $100 more than a Ruger and I don't think I can build the same rifle with an extra $100. Am I wrong?

HAH. I normally have RC and THR and TFL going at the same time in different windows and toggle back and forth between the three. As one or two load up I read the other two or one (I'm on dial up). Happen to click on the same threads on RC and THR at the same time.

No, I just already have the Ruger. I like it a lot. I have only added a hogue stock (cause I like it). It'd cost a lot to build a match gun of it, I grant you that. Mine's stainless, which I like.

That looks like a REAL nice little rifle there. I have absolutely no experience with it, just now hearing about it, actually. So, I'm in NO position to make a comparison of the two guns. If you get it, be sure and give us a range report! If it's a TC, I'm sure it's a high quality gun. I have a contender (and a rimfire barrel for it).

As with any make, you can definitely go wrong with the TC. I had a Classic, one of the many you can read about on various forums that had severe functioning problems. 3 trips back to TC and it still wouldn't work reliably (although those out-of-battery ignitons added an air of excitement to those rare times it did both chamber and fire a round), so I sold it and bought a Marlin 39A. I REALLY wish my TC had been one of the good ones, as it was amazingly accurate when it worked. Also, it is one of the few .22's out there that actually feels and is sized like it was made for an adult (same for the 39A). The new stainless ones are calling me, but I'm still holding out. I will say that TC was great about TRYING to fix my gun, but they could just never pull it off.
