It also guarantees that a Remington won't fit a Colt holster.

Clearly you know much more than about holsters in general, and making holsters than me.
However my 1875 Remington slips in and out of my old S.D.Myres Duke style holster just fine. As you can see, this holster has about 20 years of wear on it, which may account for the Remington slipping in and out so easily.
I had El Paso Saddlery make up a pair of Slim Jim holsters a bunch of years ago for my #3 Top Break S&W revolvers. The thought was the more tapered shape along the trailing edge would allow more clearance for the shape of a #3 Top Break. They work very well with my Top Breaks, but are pretty snug when I jam the 1875 Remington in. There is actually plenty of clearance for the web, but the snugness is at the end of the barrel and around the cylinder. I'm sure if I holstered and unholstered the 1875 Remington in this holster a whole lot it would loosen up just fine. Or I could wet form it to the 1875 Remington. Nope, I do not plan on doing that, but I'll bet I could.
