I was watching a new TV show "Shooting Gallery" last night and some of the shooters (all of em?) had some gizmo on the left side of their semis that looked like an attachable thumb rest or shelf or ????

Anyone know about these? silly question....of COURSE someone does.

The shelf is for the NON shooting hand thumb.

Got a link?

Looked like 1911's but no close-ups. Recoil looked more 9mm-ish.

Whatever they were, the guys were pulling back the slide with one finger like it had a 2 pound recoil spring.

??????????????????

Nope....not a shooting hand rest

The rest they were using looked to run along the dust cover and was for the NON shooting hand. Looked aluminum. Not sure though.

Like a gutter shelf along the side of the gun. When they cleared leather and got #2 hand on the gun, it locked on that gizmo.

They were also shooting at metal targets and hitting 5 in sub 2 second range.

:what:

Are we talking full-house race guns with red dot sights? If so, you might be seeing the mounting point for the sight mount, which is usually screwed to the dust cover.

I've never seen a "shelf" for the weak hand thumb. Seems like it would screw up your accuracy. With a proper hold, your weak hand thumb is running along the side of the frame, but not touching the gun. Hmmmm....come to think about it, it could definately help control muzzle rise. But would you be putting any horizontal pressure on the gun? I'm gonna have to think about this one....

Anyway, Ive never actually seen anythink like that. I've been doing a little searching on the net and haven't come up with anything yet. I'll let you know if I do.

They were also shooting at metal targets and hitting 5 in sub 2 second range.

Could it have been about the Bianchi Cup? You'll see all kinds of strange hardware there.
