I know it sounds like blasphemy but its really not that bad. Ive herd thumbhole stocks are great for quick target acquisition. I dont know if thats true but just stating what I have heard. Im sure you have seen those laminated wood (cough gross cough) on a long range AR15. Well Bell & carlson have a synthetic black thumbhole stock for the AR.

I dont think it looks all that bad. If anyone has any more pics of one on an AR please post.

It's Stargate: SG-1 and is filmed in Canada. That's why they get to use a bunch of firearms not legal in the US, like the FN-P90.

Even the ugliest stock in the world would look good if Amanda Tapping is holding it! :D

The only use I see for a thumbhole stock is in area that a pistol grip is illegal, but a thumbhole isn't.

I always wondered how much it structurally stiffened the AR stock, adding an extra attachment point as it does. I wonder if it'd make buttstroking somebody upside the head a less risky proposition...

The weak point of an AR stock isn't the stock; but the buffer tube extension it is attached to...
But that's exactly what I mean - if the stress of buttstroking someone is distributed between the pistol grip boss/screw and the buffer tube boss/extension, I'd have to believe that it would be less likely to snap or do something untoward...

Its cool how you can also tell its in canada because of the ELCAN. When was the last time you saw an ELCAN used by US Forces?
