I owned one of these last year and it was a real shooter. Was occasionally banging steel out to 1200 yards but mostly at the 700-100 yard range. I got on the 6.5 CM kick and traded it off for a 24 inch Tikka CTR. It’s held it’s own but I’m still really partial to the 260. The 260 I traded came back in the gun store today and I can get it back for about 400 less than I paid for it. Still have dies and brass and a lot of .264 bullets. I’m planning on a 3-18x44 scope I’ve got to go on it.
I had every intention of buying the 300 win mag in a Rem mil spec but don’t like adding weight to stock or getting beat to death trying to send 100 rounds down range in a good outing.
What’s are your thoughts on the 2 rifles. Drawback is 20 inch barrel on the CTR. Micro Bastard muzzle brake is still on it. It fits good and I like the 10 round mag. I’ve chrinographed the 260 before with Hornady eldx at average of 2780 FPS. Could drop to a 130 or 120.
The 300 win mag gets me more energy down range but at a high cost to an old man repairing from a rotator cuff injury. I plan on taking one of these to a western Antelope hunt this year which most rifles I own now will do the job. Just looking for some more input.

I wouldn't trade a 6.5/260 for a 300 WM unless I planned on shooting elk size game at ranges in excess of 500 yards. For punching paper, banging steel or hunting deer, antelope, or even elk at more reasonable ranges I'd take something smaller every time and either the 260 or 6.5 CM will fill that need.

I have a CTR in 308. Would have bought a 6.5 CM, but the 308 was picked up used at a good price and for what I do either is fine. The CTR's are shooters but the weight is a little more than I like for most of my hunting, but I could make it work for a lot of what I do. Great rifle for shooting at the range.

As far as 260 vs 6.5 CM they both are capable of doing exactly the same thing. It is just usually easier to make it happen with 6.5 CM. I don't really see both of them staying viable. It is a lot like the 243 and 244. Both are so similar, and with hand loading the 244 has the potential to be better. But the 243 caught on and 244 did not. I believe the 260 is going to slowly die off. It is already a LOT easier to find ammo and brass for the 6.5. But if you hand load you will always have ammo. Brass can be made from 308 brass.

For my uses 20" is enough barrel for either round.

I have just not had the precision with the 6.5 out past 500 yards that I had with the 260. Brass no problem I’ve got about 350 pieces of 260 and around 500 rounds of 308 once fired I’d just had anealed before I traded the 260 for the cm. I’m really missing the rifle if you can tell. I’d thought of buying the CTR in a 308 but had a heavy barreled Savage that was more than decent. All are easy sub moa rifles and easy enough to reload for. I was kind of balking on the 20 inch but I think my body will thank me for not buying the 300. I’ve got a T3X Lite in a 300wsm but it’s for hunting only. Unlike the 300 win mag the wsm has a decent heavy shove verses the snap crack and pop of the 300 win mag. It shoots 180 Noser Accubonds with imr 4451 really nice.

I shot two prong horns in Wyoming one shot each. one at 280 yrds and the second at 310 yrds prone with a harris bipod using a rem 700 in 7mm08 with a 120 gr nosler BT at 3000 fps. your .260 with do the same thing with ease.
