Looking to update a scope on my Tikka M695 7mm RM. Either putting one of these scopes, yet TBD, 1. Leupold Mark 6 3-18x44 (34mm tube) 2. Bushnell ERS 3.5-21x50 (34mm tube) 3. Bushnell LRHS 3-12x44 (30mm tube).

Optilock Tikka Base and Rings.

Picatinny Rail Option - EGW Picatinny Rail with Nightforce Rings (currently have these rings already)

I'm leaning toward a picatinny rail option because of the flexibility with rings.

Any recommendations?

I like the idea of a picatinny as well. I’m a function over form guy in most cases, and it’s amazing how many times a functional form just looks cool.

I don’t care for the older style mounts beyond integrated Tally’s so my choice is always 1913 practical and yes, EGW has good things going on with everything I’ve tried (which is quite a bit).

I have a Tikka M695 in 7mm Rem Mag. I went with the EWG pic rail setup. I prefer this option on my bolt guns as it provides more flexibility when mounting scopes since I am not constrained by the distance between the two bases. The only reason I’d go with a 2-piece is if the rifle had an open ejection area such as a Win M70 AND my scope could be mounted within the constraints imposed by the distance between bases. Short actions are far more accommodating in this regard than longer actions such as .30-06 parent cartridges and magnums.

What size scope objective and ring heights do you use with yours? And what clearance does it provide? Enough room for scope caps? I’m assuming it’s held up well to recoil. I will probably be putting about 30 to 40 rounds per year through it. Sorry, lots of questions.

I’ve got a Vortex Razor HD LH 2-10x40mm and Weaver steel high rings. For whatever reason, Weaver rings tend to be lower so their high is what most companies would call medium.

That setup has sufficient space for caps to be added without making contact with the barrel, base, etc.

I have not shot the setup yet, but I have the exact same setup on a Savage Axis .30-06 and it’s still solid after probably 20+ rounds of 180gr loads.

Well, I just pulled the trigger on a Near MFG picatinny rail after talking to the wife . I spoke with Mr. Near (?) and he indicated he had a rail for an M695 that was in stock, so turn around should be quick. Sighting in my rifle this last weekend after switching scopes and found out my rings are lacking. Not sure what the issue is, as I'm torquing the clamps to the dovetail as much as I dare and things won't stop moving. So, getting a replacement has suddenly become a high priority with rifle season opener in a few weeks.

I tried them as I’d used Millett turn-in (standard) before and experienced the same thing. Eventually I realized they were so soft, they actually bent the clamping screw without ever getting tight.

You cannot go wrong with any EGW product.

I don’t doubt that. I was close to buying an EGW rail. Didn’t read anything bad about them. I’m sure they would hold up to any use I would put on them.

I’ve read good things about Near MFG as well. I do like the idea of a steel rail in this case. That’s just me settling my cognitive dissonance. Also, I never plan on replacing the base, so the annualized cost is negligible. Yep, resolving more cognitive dissonance.

I just wished I would have noticed the problem with the millet rings sooner.

I didn’t notice you were using Millett rings until your last post. The first set of rings I ever purchased when I mounted my first scope were Millett. Since then I’ve had an abiding dislike for them.

Well, I got a combo that I think will work. Tikka M695, Near MFG Picatinny base, Nightforce 1” rings and a Leupold Mark 6 3-18x44. I went to sight it in. Attached photo shows first shot bore sight at 200 yds with Winchester 150 gr Silvertip that I got CHEAP from Walmart. On paper - excellent. Dial down and right. One shot with 150 gr TTSX. Low and right. Adjust turrets. One shot 3/8 low left, one shot 3/8 high left, one shot 1” low. Checked target and was pleased. One more shot 3/4 high right. Happy. Solid 1 moa’ish at 200. Took some more shots at various distances on different targets. Final group on this target was start of load testing for 139 gr TTSX. Everything tracked and no head scratchers. Literally everything went like clockwork once I started shooting. Spent an afternoon with low winds 3 to 5 mph and no crosswind. Great day with the new setup. Now getting to this point is a different story.

Just wanted to do one more follow up; the "different" story - what didn't go well. As you know, once I realized I "needed" to update my rings, I settled on a Near MFG picatinny base for my M695. They had one in stock and it shipped the next day. It made it to the customs port from Canada and out of customs into the USPS system in short order. Tracking, once out of customs, said it was to arrive last Tuesday. Well Tuesday came and tracking now said Thursday. Being the perfect storm, I'm looking at weather, and the weekend is looking very windy. Friday looks perfect to do sight in, the calm before the storm. So I planned to take Friday off, in anticipation of the base arriving on Thursday. Well, we have some construction going, and it just so happened Thursday is the day they decided to poor a slab for a future front porch on our house. I get home after work and ask the wife where the package is. Wife, "What package?" Me, "The package that was out for delivery" according to the tracking app I checked in the A.M. I recheck the tracking app and it says, "Unable to deliver. No secure location available." "Say what?" FYI, the package was small enough to fit in the mailbox, across the road from the earlier construction. My children learned some new swear words on Thursday.

If the package stayed on the truck for a second attempt to deliver, I wouldn't have the base until mid to late afternoon - too late to mount a scope and properly sight in. Anyway, pull an audible. Think, Jim, think...Can we tell the post office to hold it? YES! The app allows us to do that! So, at 7:45 am on Friday, I'm in line at the post office (actually, no line, just me) waiting for them to open. They open, and I ask the clerk to get the package that was being held. "Not here, out for delivery." The clerk might have learned some new swear words on Friday morning - but I was as nice as I could be.

Anyway, the delivery truck turned around a mile out, brought the package and my sight in day was possibly saved. So I brought the base home, mounted the base, rings, got the scope eye relief set up, got the scope height measured and off I went to my sight in field 40 minutes away. The sun was breaking through the fog on my drive up, the water on the lakes was like glass, the day is perfect. I get to the field and my bench and start unloading to set up targets. Wait, where's my range finder???? WHERE'S MY EFFING RANGE FINDER?!?! The geese in the field learned some new swear words Friday afternoon.

This is all in preparation for deer hunting, and this is the last day prior to deer season I can use the field for shooting given the high wind weather forecast Saturday and Sunday and then the restrictions on firearms afield 5 days prior to rifle opener. So I had no choice. In order to do sight in right, I had to drive home, get my range finder, and drive back.

But, once I started shooting, the God's smiled on me. Prior to that, I just know they were just laughing their asses off, having a little fun with me.
