Does anyone have any insight into these rifles? Are they a good value? I've heard they are fairly accurate.

excellent value, excellent accuracy. they have had some problems with some of the stainless ones though, they had a recall on them because of a bad batch of barrel steel. There's info on their website about it.

I enjoy my T3 lite stainless 308 for its accuracy, light weight and ergonomics. Drawbacks are minor, but include a small ejection port so it is more difficult than many rifles to top load, magazines that are way too spendy for what they are, and the usual appearance concerns (tupperware v. eye candy).

Beretta owns Sako, which makes Tikka to hit lower price points. An unfortunate batch of barrel steel caused some commotion in 2004, but I am sure the long range consequence will be improved quality control. By all means try one and see if the smooth bolt motion, adjustable trigger and other factors work for you. I think you'll like it.

Love mine. For a cheap rifle its shot very well. I was getting .80 groups at 100 yards with hunting ammo on a T3 lite. Very lite rifle too, very comfortable to carry and to shoulder.

my first hunting rifle or big bore gun at all and i love it. really accurate and lite. only problem ive had was putting my eye to close to the scope and lettin' er rip LOL . mags are hard to find and over priced so just a reason to really not loss that one it came with. mine is the TIkka T3 lite in .30-06.

.80 moa with a t-3 lite. is that common with that rifle or do you just have one thats just a bit better?

I only have one, so I can't say if its common. I tried three different kinds of 150 grain hunting ammo, and one set of 180 grain ammo, and this was the kind that groups best. The others ranged from 1 inch to 3 inches (the 180 grain was the three inches, it was all over the place) at 100 yards.

I am using good ammo though, its the Hornady SST. I have to get around to trying match ammo as well, but its so cold up here I'm not in a hurry.

I guess I paid alot less than that. Mine isn't the stainless, its just the synthetic stocked blued T3 in .308. You are right, it isn't the cheapest, but for how it shoots its a great value.

My T3 in 300 WSM is awesome. Accurate, smooth bolt and feeding, outstanding trigger. Best group so far is 0.62" 3 shot at 100 with Hornady SST 165 gr over IMR 4350. I paid $400 from a guy who shot less than a box through it and decided it wasn't the right caliber for him.

I think it shoots great regardless of the price. You gotta admit, though, it's hard to find this combo of great trigger, accuracy and fit and finish for less money. While not "cheap", the Tikka is certainly less expensive than many and higher quality than most. Savage would be the closest.

with moa like that I'm not going to go with the varmint style rifle. It sounds as if you guys are getting the moa out of the t3 I would expect from the varmint. I could use it for target shooting and hunting, I'll save some money and get really good optics for it :)

Tikka Varmit 308

Tikka Varmit 308 cal

i have had the Tikka since late Nov so far iam satisfied , it shot 1/2 groups out of the box and my best so far is 0.268 with handloads . the Tikka trigger is crisp with zero creep can adjust to 2 to 4 lbs. mine set at 2 lbs. the bolt is smooth as butter . the mags Work no FTF , the stock is not as heavy as i would like but it would take alot of abuse before failing . on a scale to 1-10 i would give it a 9 .
my Tikka is at Ken Ferrall now , he's making a 20 moa rail for it that's going to be pretty slick so any T3 owners will have a choice on scope setups soon as all calibers use the same long action.

Tikkas are wonderful rifles.

I have a Tikka T3 Lite blued in .308Win.
There isn't any premium ammunition that I cannot shoot into 1MOA. Most premium ammo will do 0.8MOA for average groups.
The smallest groups with hunting ammo have been 0.5MOA and the best groups I've ever shot were 0.3MOA with Black Hills Match 168gr BTHP.

I just got into reloading so I haven't been able to really test this rifle out.

This is a typical group (not the best) with 168gr BHA Match:

The holes were the 2-4 shots out of a clean barrel, so I attribute that farther hole toa still unfouled barrel.

Do a search on Tikka and you'll see other threads about them.

"For a cheap rifle its shot very well"......I don't think a $535 rifle is cheap.
For a T3 Lite in blued steel around here they are $475 new. I got mine for $425 used (it looked brand new to me).
That is cheap, it's only $75 more than a Rem 700 ADL blued synthetic from WalMart.

It's worth noting that while TargetShooter2 said all T3's use the same long action, short action cartridges still have short bolt throws because the bolt throw is controlled by the bolt stop.

TargetShooter2, what did you use to color the stock?

Hello,

Fumbler

the reason i said they use the same long action is the new scope rail from Ferrell if iam correct should work on all models of the T3 and all calibers as the receiver is the same , i will post some pics when i get the rifle back it will slide on the 17mm grove and line up with the holes on the receiver .
on the paint on the stock i use good ole Krylon Cammo OD , you have to use a plactic primer on this stock or the paint wont bond !! it's different than other stocks i have painted .

The rail will slide onto the reciever's grove?
Kick ass! :D
That's cool.

Will he be making a 0MOA rail?
I have been looking for the picatinny rail from the tactical one but I haven't been able to find it and i suspect it will cost much more than it is worth.

Hey Target Shooter

Is that cheekpiece a factory item with the Varmit Rifle or is that one of your additions? If an add on where did you get it?

Sincerely,

Bernie

Hello,

Fumbler

i looked at the rail on the tactical aswell ,, if it's like the rest of the Sako prices they are high dollar even if you can order one , try ordering for a TRG-41 ouch . on the rail i would assume it will come in both zero and 20 moa . i will say this Ferrell makes really top notch bases and rings as i looked at the TRG and Remmy and Savages & CZ rails and they are heavy and for his prices hard to beat anywhere .

Bernie B

the cheekpiece comes with the varmit model on the tactical model you have a dial where you can raise and lower on mine if you want to raise it all you have to do is sleeve it to get the desired height for your cheek , and take it off when you use a bore guide.

ajkurp

it's sad that this has happen to the Sako/Tikka rifles , as it could happen to anyone of the gun mfgs it just happen to them ,, i would buy a Sako or Tikka anyday of the week though i shot them before this and will continue to shoot them .

I've got a blue T3 Lite in .30-06 with a Nikon Monarch UCC 3-9x40, and my best group is .30 MOA at 100 yards. I paid $410 used but unfired, without Tikka scope rings (I use Weaver rings on it).

You can pick up a blued T3 new around here for around $475. Wally World used to carry them on special order for $408, but they've dropped Tikka. In fact a lot of smaller dealers around here have dropped Tikka because of complaints about Beretta. Whatever the price, that is incredibly cheap for the quality of gun you get.

I called up SSI, one of Walmart's supplier, to ask about Tikkas.
Their (Walmart) 2003 catalogue lists the T3 Lite for $415.
SSI said they can have one shipped to Walmart for that price, but I had to put in a formal order with Walmart just to see if they had any in stock. If they didn't have any in stock then I was simply out of luck.
I don't know why the woman on the phone from SSI couldn;t tell me if they had any.

Supposedly the T3's have been on such a high demand that to order one from Beretta it was a 6 month wait.

Hello,

Fumbler
it took a month from the time i told my dealer to get me a T3 varmit and he went through most of his suppliers , out of all the posts i have read on the T3 they all shoot good , i will be adding a varmit in 223 sometime this year iam looking for a older model of a Tikka rifle first that i have wanted for a long time .

I plan to get the Varmint version in 22-250 this year. With a bipod and a good scope, it should make one heck of a prairie dog gun.
