New Haven Wal-Mart Won`t Sell Guns
A new Wal-Mart store in New Haven, Conn., has bowed to a request of the
community to not sell firearms. After the store applied for a license
to
sell guns, the mayor and the police chief wrote personal pleas to stop
the
plan and a community group threatened to boycott the store. Police
Chief
Francisco Ortiz said: "We`ve got to recognize that a great number of
crimes in our communities come from firearms that were illegally
purchased."

New Haven -- A Wal-Mart store soon to open it's doors in the elm city has bowed to the request of the community to not sell weapons of any kind.

...snip...

The ban on all weapons means some other items will not make it on to store shelves, that includes: paint ball guns, pellet guns and b-b guns. The items are not traditional firearms but they still worry police because they look like the real thing.

Gonna have pretty poor sales volume if they don't sell ANY weapons. Baseball bats, hammers, closet rods, ad infinitum. I guess they can still sell cotton balls, but only in small bags.

How does one "illegally purchase" a firearm at WalMart???

WalMart went down the tubes when Sam died. They started importing chinese crap, screwing over the employees and customers and generally became corporate a-holes. WalMart can bite me.

The Wal-Mart in Kolumbus, Ohio on Morse Road does not sell any guns nor does the Galyans. Stores do what ever the municipalities tell them to to keep the doors open. The general public does not care what they sell as long as what they need is cheap. I really don't like Wally World but they are doing something right or they would not be selling a BILLION dollors worth of crap.

Galyans? Really? The Galyans here (North Potomac, People's Republic of Montgomery County, Maryland) has a bunch of beautiful USPs in a glass display case, roughly 90 shotties/bolt-actions, as well as almost a quarter of the second level of the store devoted to hunting goods...that is surprising.

I think letters to the panty-waisted New Haven mayor and police chief might be more in order.

Yes, but Kolumbusomalia has made it a real pain to buy a firearm there. Waiting period and a bunch of other crap.

A dealer has to have a license from the city. Guess an FFL just aint good enough for the idjits in charge of Kolumbusomalia.

Anyone who wants to buy has to get a permit from the same .gov flunkies who the dealer had to go thru.

7 day waiting period on the permit.

Holy crap....you should see the crap people in Kolumbusomalia have to go thru! I have a book from the ATF, they sent me because of my C&R, that has the laws for all the states, and quite a few city codes.

Listen to this crap....

545.07 Weapon transaction permit application; permit term, fee.
(a) Application for a weapon transaction permit shall be made on forms provided by the Section, shall be made under oath and shall provide the following information and material:
(1) Full name, residence address, residence telephone number, date of birth, sex, race, and social security number of applicant;
(2) A current criminal background review, performed by Columbus police personnel;
(3) Fingerprints
(4) Type of weapon to be transacted
(5) Any other information or material required by the rules and regulations promulgated by the Safety Director under this section.

Its also a $5 fee, which, of course, cops are exempted from.

Oh yeah, and "no weapon dealer shall purchase, sell, barter, trade, give away, or take possession of an "assault weapon" as defined in Section 2323.01(I), C.C.C., except as provided in Section 2323.05(c)".

Aha! Time for the best part!

The above "assault weapon" crap ....

(A) No person shall sell, offer, or display for sale, give, lend or transfer ownership of, acquire or possess any assault weapon.
(B) This section does not apply:
(1) Law enforcement officers blah blah blah (we knew that would be in there, didnt we?)
But here's the good one....
(3) To any person who lawfully possessed an assault weapon and who registered that assault weapon pursuant to former Columbus City Codes Section 2323.05 in 1989.

Even better, they also have a 'large capacity magazine' ban, and it doesnt have anything to do with the date of manufacture. The only people who can have them, according to Kolumbusomalia kode, are cops (surprise surp[rise), military, fedgov cops (oh, another surprise..), and those who have registered Class III stuff, or registered 'assault weapons'. So if you've a post-ban AR-15, and get caught with a preban mag, guess what?

(C) Whoever violates this section is guilty of unlawful possession of a large capacity magazine, a misdemeanor of the first degree.

Hmmm, seems I remember the punishment for an M1 (first degree misdemeanor): up to 1 year in county jail.

For having a preban AR mag, but a post ban rifle!

Yet, go to Hilliard, or Dublin, or better yet, Marysville (anywhere to get away from the big city liberals), and no problem.

Have I ever mentioned that I'm glad I dont live in Tole-DUH, SinSinattababwe, Cleveswaziland, or Kolumbusomalia?

No surprise that Galyans doesnt have any guns. I'd heard that other gun stores down that way moved north to get out of the city and away from these laws, too. Didnt Galyans move their firearms to one of their others tores, north of the city?

I think a letter of censure should be put in the CLEOs package and the mayor recalled. Wal-Mart is an innocent bystander in this case. There are little dictatorships in the east.

I'll second the "What’s so bad about NOT selling guns?" If you want to blame anyone, blame the damn city government. They were the ones threatening Wal-Mart into not selling them. Here at the one in town, they have 4 revolving cases with long guns. Are you going to get made at them for not selling handguns now? So long as wally world follows local laws and the people at the counter know what they're doing, I give them a thumbs up just for continuing to sell them. They could drop them entirely, like some other chains have.

Don't blame Walmart for doing what the community wants.

The "community group" and the idiot mayor and grabber police chief are to blame.

Now let me scare 'ya a bit more, about 2 years ago Cols, PD went to an electronic records system. Any firearms purchase permit issued is availible to city personnel (Police.) Here's a hint, I don't buy "ANYTHING" in columbus that I don't have to. Guns, ammo anything, there are too many good gun stores outside the city for me to waste my time.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the new wal mart is going to be a short walk away from Yale where all the nations richest spoiled little brats go to college.

I think a letter to the (new) Governor of Connecticut threatening to boycott any firearms manufacturer (Ruger, Colt, Charter Arms, etc.) located in that State might be in order as well.

I still get pissed off when I recall how Gov. "tax-thief" Weicker instituted an income tax on me when I lived there, then took some of my money and gave it to Colt when they were going bankrupt, and then passed a State AWB prohibiting me, a resident of CT, from buying the majority of Colts products.

Most liberal Democrats are beneath contempt.

I think that you may be looking at this all wrong.

When Wal-Mart comes to town there are generally some mom & pop shops that just can not compete and go out of business. If Wal-Mart can't sell guns in a particular area then they probably would not sell gun related stuff either. This would be a boon to the smaller gun shops in a radius around Wal-Mart. I don't have a problem so much with Wal-Mart choosing to not sell guns as I do with those areas infringing on the 2A rights of the people that live there.:fire:

Historical note: The city of New Haven has pursued this tack with all stores within city limits for over a decade, probably closer to 20 years. K-Mart had the same situation when they opened a new Super K-Mart in New Haven. The unfortunate fact is that the store was located in a part of the city with a high percentage of low-income residents (welfare). They have nothing better to do that gripe, complain, and line up with their pastors to picket the store. That's what happened to the K-Mart, and I'm going to guess that the Wal-Mart is probably in the former K-Mart location and facing the same kind of community pressure. Heck, the K-Mart had opened and was selling guns. Except nobody was going into the store because of the picket lines, so they caved in and removed the guns. Wal-Mart is just proceeding directly to Step three.

Wal Mart has always been my shopping destination of last choice. Why pay less for worthless communist Chinese junk
I couldnt agree more.one would be lucky to get an exchange for the same junk when returning broken junk.
Even better, they also have a 'large capacity magazine' ban, and it doesnt have anything to do with the date of manufacture
take a look at ohio's definition of a automatic weapon in the ohio codes..all those drum mags and 32+ rnd mags are illegal unless one has the proper paperwork...statewide.

Theres always policics playing on these places like walmart.dig alil deeper and youll find a bunch of $$$ sheeple making the rules for "the common good" of everyone.when it comes to losing money to one particuliar crowd or being forced out of business..theyll fold and stay in business, sell cheaper junk and try for another market.

We got CCW in ohio thanks to everyones effort in getting it done but changing attitudes about legal firearm ownership is far from finished.vote em all out.

Every now and again, WalMart will decide to move a store to a new location a few miles down the road.
That tactic might help them here.
