Its been a long time since I sold off my last AR--five years (boy time flies). Been doing almost exclusively pistol shooting, some shottie as well. So I'm ready to get back to black. This time, however, I want to build her from the ground up, as opposed to deconstructing an existing rifle and doing some mods to it. I have some ideas in my head, and what I'm starting to picture just might look a little odd as it won't be a particularly purpose built rifle in that I'm not going for a tactical entry weapon, or a varmint hunter, or a three gun rifle, etc. This AR will be for plinking, pure fun shooting. No real purpose other than that. I'm going to be keeping the shooting distances short--only out to 200 yards tops. Will shoot some close in, but no less than 50. I'd like to ask for some suggestions on just about any AR part, from bolt carrier to stock to barrel to optics. Anything any AR fans think would be worthwhile to look into.
To start I could use suggestions on a lower, bolt release, trigger group, mag release. Any companies I should be checking out. I'd like an oversize bolt release perhaps (if I'm putting it in words right). Please, anyone kind enough to reply please feel free to comment on any other parts such as barrels, uppers, barrel length suggestions, do I go stainless 20" or what? etc. Thanks to all in advance for any info or suggestions:)

Bravo Company (BCM) is a new-ish company that you may not be familiar with as they weren't around five years ago. They make absolutely wonderful stuff, from complete lowers, to bolt carrier groups, charging handles, and complete uppers. You want 20" barrels, they offer that option, as well as 16", 14.5", 10.5" carbines. They also have a 16" midlength. You want a stainless barrel? They offer those too. Same for cold hammer forged barrels.

I just assembled my first AR, using BCM and LMT (Lewis Machine & Tool) parts. I chose these two manufacturers as they offer great quality at an excellent price, BCM especially. The attention to detail that BCM has is incredible, and their customer service is great is well.

You'll have a ball. There are a lot more options for ARs than there were a few years ago. Do your research, pick good parts, and you'll be fine. Just make sure you don't pay inflated prices for the parts. Prices went through the roof with this last election, and while they are coming down there are still plenty of people who are charging a premium.
