i was told to ask the same question in this section of to forum.....to crimp or not to crimp that is the question.....im loading a 30-06 bolt action id like to get the best accuracy i can...so do i crimp it or not....got a little mixed info on the rifle section. my father in law says he doesnt crimp them at all if so it is very little.....but in the same breath he says he knows just enough to get himself in trouble lol.......i just thought with the recoil if there wasnt a crimp the COL may change do to bullet travel in the case with no crimp........this is a new load to me as i have been only reloading handgun ammo where a rolled crimp is required (41mag, 44mag, 45 colt)....like i said im reloading this rifle now so i can get get better accuracy it is a hunting rifle but id like to have a good 100-300 yds load

Do a search of the forum. Threads on this subject are frequent and numerous. Opinions are frequent and numerous.

I do not crimp for any of my rifle rounds up to and including 30-06, but I don't shoot any shoulder busters either.

I do not crimp ANY rifle rounds. Including those used in AR-15, M-1A and , Garand.
Neck tension is sufficient to hold your bullets.

I never did crimp rifle rounds however recently I tried it for my AR and accuracy improved using a Lee FCD, a very light crimp, so I intend to experiment with bolt loads also. Try both ways never know, I'm not concerned with set back just accuracy.

I typically full-length resize the case and do not crimp at all if the rounds are to be used only in a bolt action (as opposed to being used in a semi-auto of some kind).

once again thank you i have done a bunch of research and nothing is certain or no one says YES or NO straight up....so i will try a little of both a light crimp and no crimp and see what my rifle likes....and again think you!!

I agree, try it both ways, see if it changes group size!
I never thought to even try crimping for my bolt action guns, however, looking back on it, perhaps I should have!

If you are properely adjusting your resizing die there is absolutely no need to crimp, neck tension will positively maintain OAL. Also, crimping will likely cause you more frustration than you can imagine, buckling shoulders and necks is a common issue.
