Too much lube?

New to casting.
I'm using a Lee mold, 150 gr swc .358. I don't have a lubricator/sizer, so I'm using Johnson paste wax. I melt the wax with a hairdryer in a bowl filled with my bullets and tumble them around until they're evenly coated.
In order to get the grooves filled with wax, I have to use enough wax so that the entire bullet is covered. When cooled, the bullets have a goppy, uneven coating on their noses.
Am I doing it wrong, using too much wax, or is that acceptable?

try standing them up in a pie tin and pour the liquid wax in up to the top groove let it set over night and the bullets can be pushed out with lube grooves filled.

Try the Lee ALOX lube, it will work fine with a lot less mess. You just need a very thin coating of ALOX, if it is messy & sticky you have too much.

Try Rooster Jacket. Much less messy, and cheap.

Or do like pete950 posted and use the pan method to keep the lube off of the noses.

Use a smal plastic bottle cap that will cover the lube grooves of your bullet, fill that with your molten paste wax and dip each bullet individually, place them on waxed paper,when cooled pull them off place in the carton with a peice of the wax paper between layers.

Most new users of alox put too much on their bullets. ("Hmmm, that can't possibly be enough"). A thin, golden brown coat is all thats needed. I cut my alox about 30% with mineral spirits, and it dries faster, less mess in seating die, and smokes less.
