Actually, it is the second time I've taken him. He has now shot a variety of handguns (either mine or rented from the range). The first time he shot a .22, .38 out of a S&W model 19), .357 out of the same gun, and a USPc in .40.

He's thinking about buying a pistol for defensive purposes (home and/or carry), so tonight before hitting the range, we met at a gunstore so he could handle some different guns. He fondled a Ruger, a Sig P223, an XD, a Glock, and a FN FNP.

At the range he rented a Glock and an XD, both in .40 so that he could compare both of them to how he shot my USPc in the same caliber. Of the three, he said he liked the XD better, but he seems to really like the feel of the FN FNP. Of course, he hasn't shot it, but he really liked the feel of it when he held it in the store.

Having done some searches here, on TFL, and on the fivesevenforum.com, I can't really find any negatives to the FNP other than a shortage of quality holsters for it.

Are there any negatives about the FNP that I've missed? I would hate to see him make a first purchase that he would wind up regretting later.
