I went to the range yesterday with some friends were shooting different rifles AR,AK and my Garand ,and this guy next to us wanted to know if I would let him shoot my Garand and he would pay. I let him shoot rifle and when we all left he wanted to know if I wanted to trade rifle for his car a 1999 Grand Marquis I told him no I did not want to trade rifle for his car. I gave him CMP website if he really wanted to buy one. So is bartering becoming more popular?

A 1999 Mercury is not worth the paper of the registration title...keep the Garand...

If in moderately passable condition you can detail the thing and likely get 1500 or more for the mercury. That would indeed come close to getting you 2 garands. What condition is the car in?

Ive personally traded guns for cars and vise versa

I would rather have the Garand.

I assume that you already have transportation. The car will require insurance, plates, hassle to sell. Who knows what kind of shape it is in.

Often someone is trying to unload a problem car in a deal like this.

It might have been worthwhile if you wanted to buy a new car and use this as a trade-in "clunker" a few months back...:D

If you aren't really confident you can quickly make a healthy profit on that car, I would keep the Garand personally.

That kind of bartering has always been popular around here. I traded my last car for a rifle and some cash. In a lot of ways firearms *ARE* cash. They function that way locally.

Less damage done to the M1 when hunting for deer. A lot quieter in the woods also.

"Cash for clunkers" became a clunker. Keep the Garand. The rifle is a historical icon, the Gran Marquis isn't. Now if it was say a '69 Camaro or some other great American muscle car then I probably would.
