Trimming Rifle Rims

I went out right after you started this thread and measured the rims of about 40 or so 25/06 rims, which the books call for to be .473 also, Of the four brands of brass they all ranged from .463 to .469 inches. This was some very old brass and some newer ones. Measured a few LC68 30/06 brass converted to 25/06, it was about average .470" .

Minerlman, I DO NOT KNOW, but it would help to know if you fired the cases or if the cases were fired in a military type weapon. Removing a case from the chamber after it is fired can seem unpleasant to the case but when there are 600 rounds waiting to be fired in one minute what ever happens to the rim is of little concern when fired and at that speed the case could have been reluctant to leave. The majority of my cases are military 06, most of what I shoot are chambers that use formed 30/06 cases, the logic? with forming/trim dies a case can not cost me more then .10 cents.

I did get lucky on a few dies I did not have at the last gun show + 2,000 cases, out of the 2,000 200 were WW 11 30/06 and 18 boxes (of 20 cases each) were Norma.

Back to the rim, I have presses, different kind of presses that have a different functional design, some of the shell holders can not be used with cases with bent rims and or burs, burs normally get sheared off with a little effort, cases that have have been fired with enough pressure to upset the head of the case will not fit all shell holders, loose shell holders have an advantage when manipulating the case length.
