Guys please help. The Saga todate. A year ago I purchased a secondhand .222 Bruno Fox. With it 40 round of Winchester ammo. Of these 15% missfired. Dent in primer looks a little shallow (but the same as those that fired). Re chambering and "firing " resulted in another fail discharge. I tried hand loads and similar problems persisted. Sent it in to the smithy to check fireing pin (clean?) and spring tention, he tried PMP (local factory ammo) - some improvement. I then made up new hand loads (after reading many of you postings) focusing on 1. consistant case length,2. clean primer pockets, 3.setting OAL with a test round (split neck and a slight back off), 4. polishing rounds after loading.

At the range I found 20% not discharging - all of these required a little more pressure to close the bolt (shiny brass wipe mark on base). A mate at the range also had his Bruno Fox and the failed rounds (6/6) fired satisfactorly from his rifle - no bolt closing effort required. It is possible that the action is not bedded properly at the front screw. Grouping is poor (100mm at 100 metres).

Any help is appreciated.

South African? Welcome!

I had a Fox like yours. Good rifle. I'd re-look the firing pin and the firing pin spring for the ignition problems - someone may have clipped the spring looking for a lighter trigger pull.

As for the rounds not chambering easy, you may have a chamber problem. Only way to tell is to do a chamber cast..

Thanks Al - Yes, South African.
I am looking for a local supplu of low melting point guu to mahe the cast, lets see what we find.
