I looked around some and it looks like the 8 bore was shooting something
in the range of 1250 grains at 1500 fps. Ouch! Anybody want to figure
the muzzle energy from that?

cal 1500 * 1500 * 1250 / 7000 / 32.16 / 2 = 6246 ft/lbs

(Ouch) i am not going to calculate the recoil energy

An 8 bore round ball would be 875 grains; 1250 gr must be a conical.
