For $450, I picked up my 2nd Heritage (a Rough Rider Combo) and my 1st Ruger (a Redhawk in .44 Mag).

First, the Heritage ... I'll save the best deal for last (which some of you have already seen in my other post).

My first Heritage Rough Rider I sold, stupidly, a few years ago. The gun worked great, looked like crap, but it didn't matter. It was fun to shoot and I regretted selling it ever since. So last week I ordered a Heritage Rough Rider Combo (with 22 LR & 22 Mag cylinders) from Bud's Gunshop for $150 (no tax or shipping), paying a $25 FFL fee.

This particular gun is a gloss blue finish (not the flat black Krylon spray paint of my last Heritage ) with a rather unusual 5 1/2" barrel. The 5 1/2" barrel models aren't even listed on Heritage Manufacturing's website, and I could find no evidence of a 5 1/2" model anywhere online except on Bud's website. This gun has fixed, open sights, which is the way I prefer my SAs - IMO, I just don't like the look of big bulky adjustable sights on the smooth classic lines of a SA.

Anyway, I took my new Heritage out this weekend and it worked flawlessly. It points very naturally, and proved to be extremely accurate. I was readily shooting spent 9mm and 45 ACP cases on the ground from 10' or so away one handed. The trigger pull is clean, though there is a lot of overtravel. The finish is actually fairly decent for a gun at this price point. Overall, the fit and finish seem improved significantly over the gun I owned a few years ago.

Overall, a very fun gun that I don't mind tossing in my safe without cleaning, unlike my K-22 which I clean after every outing:

$150 for the Heritage out of $450 spent leaves $300 for a 5.5" Stainless Steel Ruger Redhawk :D that I bought from an individual at work. And in addition to the Redhawk for that $300, I also got a hard case, 50 rounds of 44 Mag JHPs and a nylon shoulder holster.

So technically, the Redhawk itself was priced at about $225. I guess you could call that a decent deal ;) .

BTW, can anyone tell the DOB of this Redhawk by looking at a partial serial #, as can be done on S&Ws? S/N: 503-047xx.

Some of you probably saw my poll wherein I asked THR if I should buy the gun or not. Juding by the responses I got (108:0 in favor of buying it as of this post), I am officially a moron  ! Though I am not a complete idiot, as I did buy it. This is my first .44 Mag, and also my first Ruger. I've shot Redhawks before, and find the recoil of 44 Mag to be quite manageable in this beefy platform.

I haven't shot this Redhawk yet, and probably won't have time to go out for a while, but it will be something to look forward to with great anticipation.

ruger should still have the production date calculator list on their website. just have to look at it.

Measure the rough riders barrel from muzzle to cylinder face, on some ive seen they only measured the barrel from muzzle to where it hits the frame.

I think I might grab one of those heritage down the road.
450 for two revolvers seems to be the theme here but mine were all .22lr and was 350 + 100 respectively. Pretty sure you can guess which one was which :)

According to the Ruger site:
http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firear...story-RE.html#

the Redhawk was 'born' in 1995.

Thank you for the info, much appreciated!

I measured the Heritage as soon as I got home by measuring from the tip of the muzzle to the forcing cone ... it measured right at 5.5".

As I said, this is strange, as I've never seen a 5.5" Heritage 22 before.

blendingnoise,

Those are two sweet 22s you have there. I really like both of them, but the K-22 / M18 is of course my fav. Though H&Rs are certainly no K-22, they are often underestimated, IMO. Yours looks quite nice.

Lots of people finding "deals" lately. Why am I not one of them? Oh, nice guns.

The key is to always have a pile of cash handy dedicated to buying a gun you didn't plan to :D .

I was never really one of those people either. Up until the last two or three weeks. My sister got a Ruger Mk II in Nov '08 for $199. Pretty good, most sell for $300 or more, as many prefer them to the more complex MK III. She got a S&W 681-3 4" in Dec '07 for $350, not bad either. 681s consistently fetch $500 nowadays.

Not to mention 2 weeks ago I walked into a pawn shop and came out 15 minutes later with this incredibly sweet shooting Marlin Model 60 (tube fed semiauto 22LR). A little bluing wear, some pitting and a dime-sized rust spot on the left side of the barrel just below the front sight post, but it all adds character.

Price paid, $69.55, including tax :neener: :
