For months I've been hemming and hawing on what pistols or revlovers to get for my nightstand and glovebox. I was using a 70yo Detective Special .38 for the nightstand, and a Steyr M9 for the glovebox. Then I decided I wanted to get two identical pistols so that I could practice the same manual of arms consistantly. I've looked at Kahr K9, SIG 239, S&W 5906TSW, and S&W 65LS (I'm not a women, but I liked the idea of a bead-blasted, stainless, 3" fixed sights, K-frame .357mag.). Well I ended up getting two different revolvers (kinda defeated my purpose:rolleyes: ), because I wanted the versatility, reliability, and simple manual of arms of a S&W J-frame and K-frame. So I bought a S&W M640, and a M65LS, both NIB.
I must say that I'm very impressed with both! Fit and finish is excellent. The action on the two are some of the nicest I've ever tried (second only to a Colt Python). Can't wait till I get them to the range tomorrow!
I do have one question though, will the Uncle Mike's rubber grips on the M640 hold up/last in a hot glove box (I live in florida)? Also, I plan on eventually installing a 24/7 Express large dot front sight on the M640.

I wouldn't worry about the grips in the glovebox (though I'd worry about the gun getting stolen out of the glovebox - guns are more commonly stolen from cars than from anywhere else).

It sounds like you got yourself a couple of great guns. I've had Centennials and I've had a Model 13 (the blued 65 :) ), and I've been very happy with them. Use them in the best of health! :)

nero45acp.... Where are you shopping for guns. I am stationed in Tampa and am always looking for good gunshops to visit.

Newguy1,

I make most of my firearms purchases at:

Kastle Keep Guns
7153 Ulmerton Rd., Largo (Pinellas County)
727-530-4301

They are great people and have a good selection of new and used handguns/rifles. What they don't have, they'll special order for you. Their prices are some of the best in the area.

I just looked at a 60LS and was very impressed as well. I have heard that S&W will fill in the lettering where it says Ladysmith, but cannot confirm this.

I have bought several guns there, too. Is there any where else you like to go? Always looking for more gun shops....

Take Aim Guns & Safes in Palm Harbor area (north Pinellas)

Coles Gunshop/Gunsmith in Clearwater (small, interesting shop. but too expensive)

Knights Shooting Sports in Clearwater

Wain Roberts Firearms in Pinellas Park

There are a number of others that I don't have personal experience with.

Kastle Keep is by far the best in selection, price, and customer service (IMHO).

(I don't mind the "Ladysmith" logo, if I did I could take the side plate off and have it bead blasted for alot less than what S&W charges.)

One thing that I have noted about my new M640 & M65LS is the forcing cone on both appears to much thinner than on older S&W (and Colt) revolvers that I own. Is this something to be concerned about? Will it decrease the "life" of the revolver? Thanks.
