Thank you for your recent communication about SB 501. I appreciate your interest in a Texan's right to carry a concealed handgun. I have always been a strong defender of our second amendment rights and will vote "yes" when this bill comes to the Senate floor.

I encourage you to track the progress of this bill online at www.capitol.state.tx.us.

Please do not hesitate to contact me regarding this or any other issue.

Very truly yours,
Senator Jane Nelson

I'm glad to see confirmation of her posture - and that our State Legislature is not being paralyzed by the current Iraq war.

It was a Senate Bill (60) that got us the CHL law back in 1995. This one now needed to correct some detrimental intrepretations. Details available via similar H.B. 878 thread in "State Legislature" forum here at THR.

Do you know YOUR representatives' position on this before the very probable upcoming vote?

Good for Jane.

I've gotten three responses so far. Two email, and 1 snail mail. One positive and two "I'm not your rep."

Politicians. :banghead:

Keep truckin' :D

As right-wing as much of Texas is, I bet the legislators in Austin think there are too many potential health risks with open carry. Criminals would starve due to inability to commit crimes, and various politicians and soccer-moms in the Plano and Austin areas could suffer heart attacks or strokes. :)

Got a personal reply from Ed Kuempel (House, District 44, Gonzales, Guadalupe & Wilson Counties) today about the companion House bill. He's on board and said "I have a long history of supporting gun rights in Texas...."

Neat, even though I don't live in his district!

Note: He's in the House, not the Senate, and the Senate bill is the one that needs more help, so write and call the Senators. :D
