Been reading some of the forums for a while, figured I'd finally post and ask some questions since I can't seem to find quite what I'm looking for.

I've been looking into getting an accurate reproduction Single Action revolver in .45 Colt and this gun has appealed to me for years.

I'm wondering, though, just how accurate are they, how reliable are they, and how strong are they? What is the most powerful loads I can use safetly in it? How smooth is the action?

And btw, I would only be using it as a "fun gun" and back-up hunting gun.

Also, I would appreciate if there are no "consider this gun or that gun".. I'm asking about the Uberti 1875 Outlaw not the Ruger Blackhawk, or Colt or USFA.

Also, has anyone got any idea which distributor of this gun sells the highest quaility from the line? Best finish/action etc...

Thanks.

I had one of the early ones, a 45 long Colt, back in the 80s and liked it. It has a different grip angle than the Model P and the hammer took some getting used to but it was usable. As for accuracy, with the right loads it could stand right along any of the Model Ps I was using at that time. I only loaded standard loads in it and did not have any problems. I do not use loads that are much heavier than the blackpowder loads of the day. In mine, the Keith SWC (Lyman 454424) was not a good match but the original RN (Lyman 454190) was an accurate and hard hitting bullet. I loaded them to about 1000 fps.

If you are used to the Model P it will take a bit of getting used to.

I've got a 1875 in 44-40 and a 1890 in .45 Colt. I just use them for CAS and have never had problems with either.

I have two .38 /.357 1890's and two .45 Colt 1875's ... the 1890's are both Ubertis and one of the 1875's is also, the other is an older EMF by, I believe, ASM. All of them work flawlessly.

That's a beautiful pistol, Craig, but far beyond my price range.

Thanks for the replys guys. If it'll handle a lead .45 bullet at 1,000fps, I think it'll handle a whitetails or florida boar just fine. But what accuracy are they capable of?

2 inches at 50 yards, under and inch at 25? Not that I need it to be THAT good, but I'm just asking.

I've never benched Dad's but I'd wager it'll do an inch at 25yds if I do my part. He shoots into one ragged hole at 15yds off-hand with it. If I remember right that was either a standard issue 250gr SWC or RNFP over 9.0gr Unique. A great general purpose load.

The one I lust after is the little 5½" 1890 model. ;)

Mine was stolen from me nearly 18 years ago or I'd bench test it for accuracy. I used it on Ohio white tailed deer and it did fine. For hunting I used the 454190 over a full case of black powder.
