Police say 'grace period' on new regulations is coming to an end

Owners of certain types of air weapons which are about to be banned – unless held with a valid firearms certificate – have been warned that they have just five weeks left to hand them in for disposal.

The new rules came into force on January 20, and affect anyone with an air weapon that uses a self-contained gas cartridge system.

Many models look just like real guns and can be converted to fire live ammunition if they fall into criminal hands.

So far around 20 guns have been handed in to police and certificates covering a number of other weapons are being issued.

But after giving owners until May 1 to get their act in order or face a maximum of 10 years in jail, police have warned owners that their period of grace is nearly up.

The Bedfordshire force believes there are many more weapons affected by the new rules held in the county, and urges anyone affected to take appropriate action now.

The police experts also point out that air weapons using an internal compressed carbon dioxide bulb, or the more traditional type which are cocked by breaking and shutting the barrel, are not affected by the new rules.

But anyone who wants to dispose of any kind of weapon safely can do so by placing it in the bins outside Bedfordshire police stations.

"Guns affected by the new ban can be modified to fire live ammunition"
Total Bull! This is simply more UK media/gooberment fear mongering!!:cuss:

The Picture they use in the Article doesn't have a a single one air gun of the type that have been banned, it only has single shot air rifles & 1 CO2 Pistol, this is implying that all airguns have been banned, when only the ones that use ammo that has attached air cartridges were banned, this has NOTHING to do with "Air Rifles" as the article implys!.
[IE: Revolver Type Pistols that use all in one self contained pellet & gas cartridges]
(talk about Misleading news reports! :barf: )

send the ignoramus gas bags an e-mail!:fire:

When you demand that your state be your parent, and look after you from cradle to grave, don't be surprised when you only have the rights of a child.

Britain isn't dead, it's simply been reduced to the level of an abused child.

Well, they can forget about that. It seems that wild horses couldn't get the Brits to take appropriate action.

Really? I didn't know that airguns had a fireing pin and hammer capiable of setting off a cartrage, and i didn't know that an airgun barrel could withstand the pressures encountered.

... Yet ... :fire: :scrutiny: :barf:

A .22 airgun can easily handle the pressure of a .22 LR. Zip guns were made out of automobile antennas.

UK: Hand in your brains, sheeple warned
Should be the headline.

They did that a looooong time ago.

Cosmo .... the correct term is ''comatose''!!

And so the process grinds on. Only a matter of time maybe before ''ordinary'' air weapons get the chop too.

I again confess to a feeling of near shame and embarrassment at having been spawned in that place ...... but back when I was a kid .. things were acceptably sensible.

Not really quite sure when the rot set in badly ..... take heed tho - the steady march of attrition is almost imperceptible to the masses. Until it's way too late.

iapetus, that's absolutely chilling. One of the most terrifying things I've read in a long time. It's like some bad NRA propaganda--first they come after your handguns then your airguns then your knives. But it is REALLY HAPPENING! And they're talking about five year minium prison terms coming into effect! Anti-social Behaviour Act indeed. It's 1984, and it's happening right now in the real world.

"The Anti-social Behavior Act 2003"
Only in Britain .. surely!? Sounds almost Medieval!

I think they may have omitted a few details from small print ...

''Thou shalt not break wind in a public place'' (would that be a ''noise nuisance ... or an olfactory abuse?? :D )

''Thou shalt not pick thine nose in a public place''

''Thou shalt not divest self of shoes in a public place lest the odor offend''.

''Thou shalt not vomit on the sidewalk''.

''Thou shalt not kiss thine partner in view of others, lest it lead to promiscious behavior''.

The list could be long ....... but to keep this gun related - one more ..

''Thou shalt not utter the word ''Gun'' in earshot of others, lest it cause fright and afray''.

:p
