I noticed that the box of Ultramax remanufactured ammunition* that I have used LC cases (99 - 02 from what I've seen so far). Has the primer pocket crimp already been removed from these cases?

Thanks!

* FWIW it is 223.

Yes, the primer pocket crimp has been removed prior to reloading. If it wasn't, the primers would have been mangled during the seating process. They were probably run through an automatic machine that chamfered the mouth of the primer pocket, removing a small amount of brass in the process. You should be able to see where this was done around the new primer.

Hope this helps.

Sorry about that. I hadn't had my morning cup yet and didn't proof read it. I fixed it. Thanks for picking up on my goof up.

I thought this would be a good place as any to post this inquiry. I purchased a bulk case of Ultramax ammunition at Cabelas. It was marked as .308 Win, 168gr, BTHP.

Questions:

1. Is the brass used for this loading a 7.62x51 brass case? The headstamp would seem to indicate that it is 7.62x51.

2. If this is 7.62x51 brass, is the ammunition loaded to .308 Win or 7.62 (NATO)? IIRC the 7.62 (NATO) brass is a bit more robust, therefore there is less volume in the case which could lead to higher pressures if loaded with the same volume powder as a .308 Win load. Correct assumption?

3. Is there a SAMMI standard for 7.62 (NATO)? or is .308 Win that standard?

4. I bought this ammunition for my bolt action Savage chambered in .308 Win. Could I safely use this ammunition in my SA M1A (SOCOM II) chambered in 7.62x51 since it does appear to be a 7.62x51 case?

I've already contacted Ultramax and am awaiting a reply. I thought someone here might have some inside information or maybe even chronographed this ammo to confirm what the manufacturer says.
