didn't see this topic posted so here we go. with the gsg5 out of production, hk has now licensed Umarex to produce the hk 416, mp5 sd and mp5 a5 .22lr clones. can't wait to see them hit the market hopefully sometime this year, prices are about the same as the gsg5. i recall Umarex did a great on replicating the m4, felt exactly like my ar15 but i believe they could've done a better job like a functioning dust cover and bolt lock, also the 30 round mag sticks out a mile.

The MP5 clones look sweet...but the AR looks funky for some reason...I think it's the pistol grip.

FYI.
German Sport Guns is still making .22LR MP5 clones and ATI is importing them.

German Sport Guns made some slight exterior appearance changes and relabled the GSG-5 to the GSG-522.
These changes were enough to satisfy H&K.

Wht's even better is that ATI/German Sport Guns will be releasing a 110 round drum for the GSG5/GSG522. MSRP on the drum is around $95.

Wonder what the prices will be...if it's HK then they will be high. The MP5's look very authentic, more so than the GSG-5's. If they are no more than $500, I might go for one. I knew there was a reason why I held off getting a GSG-5! :D

Well, they might look like the real deal, but coming from Umarex i'm sure they won't perform as well.

Umarex is primarily a toy company; and after a lemon G22 and a crap P22, i would not buy anything they make.

The main difference in engineering is that while the Walther G-22's where designed as .22lr ground up; the HK-clone engineering is trying to fit a .22lr machine inside the parameters of another sort of gun; the end result is harder to achieve success with, just based on the point of departure. Since they couldn't get it right in a dedicated design, i have serious doubts that they'll get it right in a second-thought design move.

I was going to make a post about these same guns. They look great and much cheaper to shoot than my 223s. I think they'll be around $500 USD, which isn't too bad considering the fun and ammo saving. I think I need this.

Umarex :barf:

I hope they are not as craptacular as the various other umarex 22s. You think companies with good names with learn not to tarnish them by branding umarex guns.

i recall Umarex did a great on replicating the m4,

They made it look like a Colt but I wouldn't say they did a great job given the quality of them and all the problems end users have had with them.

One thing is for sure, now that there is some decent competition in this area we should see more competitive prices. $500 for a .22 rifle is a bit dear when you can get a 10/22 for $200. It would be nice to see these things closer to $300.

Sig at least is selling the 552 for ~$400, that's at the top of my list right now.
