Underwood Extreme Penetrators, Yes or No?

I'll pass...

My personal choice for self defense carry in 9mm is the 124 grain Speer Gold Dot. It is a proven design carried by many for its reliable expansion and penetration.

Maybe once these new non-expanding solids build a track record of success I'll consider them. Until then, I would stick with one of the various brands of proven expanding hollow points.

I suppose it depends on your planned use of the round. Defense against a black bear if all one had was a 9mm, then sure.
If you put all your chips on penetration, including that of tactical barriers, why not?

I don't believe they will be as effective against an assailant as the far less expensive HST or other comparable defensive JHP.

I admit that I do carry the Extreme Penetrator in my TCP when mowing, but that's because the only thing I'm really carrying it for is defense against aggressive stray dogs (we have 'em here) and I want something that will "bite" into a curved skull rather than be deflected.

Underwood has 2 lines of this type of ammunition. The Penetrator line penetrates 30 inches or more, and I would not use it as SD ammo against people but would consider it for woods use. The Defender line penetrates 17 to 18 inches and IMO is better suited for SD use against people.

I'm a fan of Underwood and use their Gold Dot and hard cast ammo. I haven't tried the Defender or Penetrator line yet. It does have me curious, though.

No way, dude.

9x19mm has plenty enough energy for good expansion and penetration, and I really don't see how this is much better than ball if for some reason you do want more penetration, and I'll bet you a dollar it's less reliable than ball and costs a hell of a lot more.

For the smaller calibers like 9x18mm Makarov and below, I like ball because I've never been impressed with JHP loads in those smaller choices.

Now I GUESS if you have nothing else and live in bear country it COULD perform a bit better on such a big animal, but you should probably save the money and just buy a more powerful gun to begin with. Around here, in Kansas, a standard 9mm ball load or better yet a JHP load will solve any problem I'd need one to.
