I have 150 rounds from a foray into 45 Super. Load was made for my late unlamented 1991A1. Put a recoil reducer and a 32lb recoil spring in the gun and away I went.

The loading was using Starline Brass, Oregon Trail 225gr Flatnosed bullets and 8.6grs of Power Pistol. Got almost 1100fps from a 5" 1911. But alas I sold the gun.

I have an inertial bullet puller. The thought of unloading 150 rounds in that manner doesn't sound too good. Would a collect style puller work to unload these rounds?

Don't care much about saving the bullets. I am toying with the idea of developing a reduced loading at 850fps using the Super cases to get some mileage out of them. Obviously I will reuse the powder.

Thanks

Most likely a collet won't be able to grab onto that bullet. What I have done with a single-stage press to break down short handgun rounds is slip a pipe coupling over the ram and shellholder, raise the ram to clear the coupling, place the round in the shellholder, grasp the bullet with a pair of side-cutters and lower the ram with the other hand. Pulls the bullet right out!

A longer rifle round can be broken down the same way without using the pipe coupling because it will extend beyond the top of the press and the side-cutters can be rested on the top of the press frame.

It's likely the bullets will not be salvageable in either case.

If you are not in a hurry to get your brass back, just put the box of oddballs and the inertia puller handy, and knock out a dozen or so every time you do anything else at the reloading bench. Eventually you will work your way through them.

How do I know? Well...

My wife really likes the loud pounding part of using an inertial puller. But I have to be there to separate the components. I will try to get her to help and call it date night.
