Use of Flitz metal cleaner

Picked up some Flitz metal cleaner and used it on the blued part of several older rifles that I have with excellent results. The amount of dirt on the surface that was cleaned off was surprising to say the least. What I would like to know is should I now wipe lightly these surfaces with oil to protect them from any rust occuring in storage and also can Flitz be used to clean a barrel and what is the suggested method and again I would assume that you finish by running a lightly oiled patch down the barrel.

Flitz can (and sometimes does) remove bluing. So be careful.

Flitz won't hurt blueing unless you get silly with it or it is cold blue, it isn't abrasive or anything. Flitz also leaves a protective film, basically wax. It protects like you had waxed the gun. Oil interior parts for sure, but just the Flitz on the outside should be fine.

BSW, I'd strongly suggest you use car wax on your guns after the Flitz. Dave McC suggested this and it works very well. For us in humid areas, I think it works better than oil or grease.

Common sense says test it somewhere out of sight first.

"...can Flitz be used to clean a barrel..." Not a good idea. Flitz is a metal polish. It won't clean out copper and powder fouling.
