So I am just getting into firearms and I have been sporadically eyeballing craigslist for affordable/cheap safes... or rsc's... stumbled upon what I think is a good deal, although the safe is substantially larger than I think I need. The only issue it has is what looks like some surface rust along the bottom. Do any of you think this would cause any real problems other than needing to hit it with a wire brush on an angle grinder and some spraypaint? I think it looks like a lot of safe for $150 bucks... my current 3 gun collection is gonna look awfully lonely in there. I guess it is a good excuse to get them some friends.

That looks like a heck of a lot of safe for $150. Like you said, I'd just clean the rust off (very thoroughly) and rattle can it.

Good find :D

Looks like it was a flooded basement. Might want to inquire what it was flooded with. Might remove interior for cleaning, inspection, or replacement.

I would give it a close look to make sure it wasn't ever sitting in standing water. If it has mold in it, it's not worth messing with.
For sure, that was the first thing I thought when I saw the photo. If no signs of flood damage, I'd buy it.

In Houston, so no basements... he said that his grandfather mops up against it every day. Gonna go pick it up tomorrow and see if there is any signs of mold or deeper rust. Thanks!

Buy it, clean it up and repaint it, and it'll likely be a score that you'll be proud of for many years! Don't have to keep only guns in it ya know.

That appears to be an older Amsec.
Any idea what model it is?
You can look at the side or top of the inner door frame and it should show date of manufacture.
