Used Kahr K9 03 elite

Went gun shopping with the wife today. We came across a Kahr K9 elite that looked like it was hardly carried or even shot for that matter. The gun shop has it at 425 before taxes. I was wondering if any the Kahr gurus could let me know if I found something good at a good price or if I should be looking elsewhere.

Big pluses to the gun are all metal assembly, single stack, 9mm and the weight for recoil. On a side note she liked to shoot my old G19 I know the P9 has some recoil and flip. How would the K9 compare to the P9?

I used to own a K40 (the .40 cal version of the K9) and have shot a friend's K9.

The K series is, in my mind, among a rare few guns I'd call perfect for CCW. At least for me. The all metal construction gives is a great weight that not only soaks up recoil, but makes the gun feel and handle like it is much larger than it is. The K40 balanced, in my hand, like a full sized service weapon despite its much smaller actual size.
The K9 that I have shot has a beautiful feeling recoil. It's there, but mild, and it just rolls nicely.

I think the K series is the "best of breed."

If in good condition, $425 for a K9 Elite is indeed a good deal. The elite model has several refinements not found on regular K9s.

I own the standard K9, bought used for $219 with night sights (NYPD trade-in). Great little pistol but can be somewhat bulky for carry. First magazine through it was every round in the same hole on a 1" dot at 15 yds. with a load I worked up for an M&P. Never had a failure in several thousand rounds.

If it's in the condition described I'd say buy.

That's a good buy and a fantastic gun....go for it.

Since you'll have no idea of how many rounds have been fired through it, I'd buy a new FACTORY weight recoil spring.
No "extra-power" springs, the gun was designed to use a specific spring and using something else may cause trouble where there was none.

These small guns are hard on springs and they need to be changed more often than a bigger gun.

Well with no bad reviews that I can find, I'm off tomorrow to the gun store for the wife's new gun. Thanks everybody for your comments and experiences with the kahr. dfariswheel - thanks for the heads up about the recoil spring, I would have never thought to replace it ahead of time.

It is certainly a good idea to change the recoil spring, just because, however the K9 was designed and was originally sold with a heavier spring, (22#). Whether you use the "new" factory weight or upgrade to a heavier one will not matter. The K9 was sold with a wide range of recoil springs, from 16# to the original 22#. it depends more on the ammo you use as to what recoil spring is appropriate.

I'm a big fan of the stainless Kahr's. T9, MK9 and two K9's.

The one downside in my experience has been the mags. Some of mine tend to leak rounds when carried in a pocket, when in a mag pouch no problem. My mags are old and I've not been nice to them. It could likely be my fault.

I have a K9 I got at a pawn shop for $360.

So far it has been as accurate and reliable as my Glock 26, and that is saying something. And it shot dead on with FMJ and Cor-Bon DPX (the load I keep in it.)

Got a great DeSantis belt slide holster, new in the package, for the K9 for about $25 bucks on Ebay.

Kahr K9 elite for about $450 total? Yea that is a good deal. Excellent gun.

And yes, it is an outstanding CCW gun... but... KYFFOTFT is law with that gun. The trigger, while long, is light. Do not stage the trigger but just keep your finger off until you want to fire then do a strait fast press right through the DA pull.

I have one but carry a CW9 as it's lighter for shorts carry which I mostly am in FL. It is a great feeling gun though, shoots lights out. I got mine for $299 two years back when NYPD got rid of them all.
They currently go for up to $550 used on gunbroker so $425 is good to go. I almost feel guilty for paying so little on what seemed like a new gun when I got mine.
Practically no wear even on the grubber grips. Good thing the police departments don't make them train much with their weapons, or maybe not

I'd rather have four used ones rather than one with "special" sites and a worked magwell but then I don't have money to burn.

Kahr K9 humor:...

Wow. That's a pretty good example of too much improvement. That's a older "slab sided" K9 to boot. The front strap looks good, I have to admit, but it isn't worth $1500 more than a standard early carbon steel K9.

The Elite model in discussion comes with the mag well easing and a great trigger, much better than the original, (NYPD), trigger found on the K9.

A little late to this thread, but I've had a K9 Elite for years that I love. Reliability has been great and it is easy to shoot.
