Man Shot, Killed by Teen 'Sighting In' Rifle Nearby
A Highland man died Wednesday after being shot by a teenage neighbor who was "sighting in" a rifle in his back yard.
Jason Paul Jones, 20, died after being flown by helicopter to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, according to the Alpine/Highland Police Department.
Shortly after 3 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was sighting in a .22-caliber rifle in the area of 6800 West and 9600 North in Highland, in the northeast portion of Utah County. Jones was in an adjacent yard when he was struck in the upper torso by a single gunshot, police said.
Police didn't identify the teen. The shooting is under investigation.
