(Note...given the likely assault on gun rights in the next few years, it makes sense to get that permit now...while you can....whether my class or someone elses....just makes sense ...)---
On Saturday, November 8th, 1:30pm, I will be presenting the Utah Permit to Carry class in the Des Moines area. (Specific location being arranged). This class will meet the requirements for participants to apply to Utah for their permit.
Although not valid in Iowa, the advantage of the Utah permit is that it is honored in some 30+ States, including the near neighboring States of Minnesota and North Dakota (see http://handgunlaw.us for full coverage maps). (Note: You do NOT need an Iowa permit to receive the Utah permit.)
The Utah process requires a class...no range time is mandated; the class takes about 4-5 hours to complete. When finished, I provide an application "signed off" by me as the instructor; a fingerprint card to take to local law enforcement for completion; you also will need a simple head/shoulders photograph as part of the application. You then mail this material to Utah, along with their $65.25 application fee, and about 45-60 days later their permit arrives in the mail! It is valid for 5 years, and the current renewal rate is only $10!
This is NOT a class in how to shoot. It is a class on the legal ramifications of the use of lethal force and the legal provisions for carrying. I am a retired attorney, and we delve deeply into those areas. It is a fun...informative session. Cost for the class is $95.
If interested...or would like more information, please e-mail to paul (at) shootingsafely.com or visit my website at http://shootingsafely.com.
