I have a chance to get an original 1962 era Winchester Westerner in .264 Win Mag. It is in approximately 85- 90% shape.

Any thoughts as to an honest value on this gun?

This one is immaculate except for a couple light scratches in the stock, and a small swirl mark on the barrel... and it's nowhere near that high...

Check the barrel throat for erosion is all I can tell you!

There are no cheap pre-64 Model 70's anymore that haven't been Bubba'd.

So if the barrel throat isn't fried, and it's way less then that, you better buy it!

None that I could find. Probably gonna pull the trigger.... $400.00 isn't too costly I don't suppose...

No!

You stole any Pre-64 Model 70 with a working action for that!

Better kiss him and make small talk when you get done with him!

Leave it a .264 Mag.

Nothing at all wrong with them unless you insist on shooting 200 rounds a range session.

Rather then destroy it for the action?

Flip it for twice the price and buy something with no collector value at all.
Like a Savage.

I might at that. The Westerners are a bit heavy though... might make a good "beanfield" gun....

It will make it what it always was.
A Pre-64 Westerner.

And it will never lose value as a Winchester.

Unless you make a Huge Mistake and try to make something else out of it!

Don't even Think About It!

Trust Me!

I agree with RC.

This is no longer a gun to convert to another caliber because they've become so collectable. If you don't want it for exactly what it is consider it currency to get what you'd like to have instead. Have it checked by a gunsmith who can tell you it is in firing condition that might give you a % range for condition and then either shoot it as is or sell/trade it for a monetary profit.

If it's original, keep it that way. If you can't find a use for a 264 mag, sell it to someone who can.

If you want to do a project using the action, start with one that's already be altered. There's no shortage of those.

I may keep it, or I may use it to fund a wildcat project....
