Value of a Colt Gold Cup National Match?

Found a 1969 Colt Gold Cup National Match in about 95% condition with Pachmyr grips. Has the original 2-piece cardboard box with the red cardboard insert.
What's a fair price?
I am debating between this gun and another one.

This would be a pre 70 series. I don't believe these say Gold Cup. The serial number should have a NM prefix.

Condition and original means everything. For an original 95% condition in the box $1500 is not unreasonable. If the grips are changed to the pacs (I don't like rubber grips by the way), has anything else been changed?

I have not seen one in any reasonable condition for under $1000 lately.

Had a gunsmith check it out.
Other than the grips it's all original.
Let's just say I was able to get it for about half of what you guys were coming up with so I think it was a wise investment.

Sounds like a good buy. Take the grips off an check for wear under the grips. Put something else back on.

I put Pachmayr grips on my Colt Government when I first bought it. Many thousands of rounds later, I replaced them with some nice wood grips.......and noticed that the Pachmayrs had caused wear on the otherwise pristine blueing. Several places were bare metal. You couldn't see it with the grips on and I'm positive these wear marks were not there when I put the grips on. Probably has something to do with the metal inserts Pachmayr uses in the grips. I was a noobie back then so it's possible that the grips loosened under recoil and this was caused by moving around but I can't recall ever having grips on this particular gun come loose. Anyhow, if it's going to be a safe queen find out what the original factory stocks were and get a pair. Probably walnut with the Colt seal (my Government came with these and I recently put them on my 1991A1).

I had the grips off before I bought it.
Not too bad. A small amount of wear but nothing really noticeable.
It should have the walnut grips with gold medallions.
Think I have a line on a pair already.
Once I get them on it I'll post a picture.

Actually, Colt added the "Gold Cup" rollmark to their National Match pistols beginning in 1957.

I'd say a '69 Gold Cup in 96% condition would be a great buy at $1000.

vanfunk-I will have to look at the rollmarks for "Gold Cup". I know it says National Match on the left. I just can't remember about the right side. I know they called the pre series 70 a Gold Cup National Match. The above pictures show that don't they?
