Articap I didn't see any skyrockets in there...I was disappointed!
Were ya referring to the shells that had the long tails? If so...those were ascending comet shells...a shell with a comet pasted on the outside so ya see a long illuminated tail that spirals upwards and then the shell breaks.

The shells are shot from mortars (guns) and they use black powder to launch them...what more could ya ask for??

All I know is that they're large fireworks that shoot up high into the sky and explode. The large shells are the reason why the crowd is kept pretty far away because there have been accidents shooting them off safely in the past.
It's just a free show for those who don't get a chance to see any.
