Hot off the presses from the VCDL:

GREAT NEWS everyone! I have in hand Senator Cuccinelli's substitute
bill for the restaurant ban repeal and it's just what we wanted! It
is a substitute bill that will replace SB579 in its entirety. Gone
is all the bad, convoluted, confusing language. It now says that we
can carry concealed in a restaurant or club that serves alcohol as
long as we are not consuming. (To consume you will have to carry
openly as you have to do now consuming or not.)

URGENT ACTION!

THIS is where the rubber meets the road ladies and gentlemen. If we
really fight hard for this, I think we stand a real chance of getting
the repeal. BUT we must really go after it, no fooling around. I'm
ready to win this after all these years - how about YOU?

We have only one short week before this bill is heard in committee.
VCDL is gearing up for a huge mailing, but there are 2,400 of you on
this alert list and if all of you respond, that will be a huge push.
THIS IS GOING TO BE A REAL FIGHT AND I AM COUNTING ON YOU - We CAN
win this one! Do this now while it is on your mind and timely.

1. VCDL needs each and everyone of you to send an email to the Senate
Courts of Justice committee.

Here is a link to the page to send the message. Just paste in the
subject and message below, edit in your name and address, and type in
your email address where it says "My E-Mail Address" and send the
message. You can leave the "Send a Copy To" field blank. Here is
the link:

Subject: Support the Substitute SB579!

Dear Senator,

Please support Senator Cuccinelli's substitute SB579 bill that allows
a concealed handgun permit holder to carry concealed in a restaurant
or club that serves alcohol AS LONG AS THE PERMIT HOLDER IS NOT
CONSUMING ALCOHOL. This is an extremely important bill to gun
owners, who have made major concessions to get the ban repealed.
Please report SB579 out of committee and vote for it on the Floor!

Sincerely,
<your name>
<your address>

2. If you are a CONSTITUENT of any one of the following Senators,
PLEASE take a few minutes to CALL his office and leave a message
about supporting the SUBSTITUTE SB579. Tidewater, we NEED you! I
can't emphasize enough how important this is. Be sure and mention
you are a constituent and provide your name and address. If you get
a recording, just leave the message with your name and address. Here
is the list with their Richmond office phone number:

Senator Stolle, Virginia Beach area, 804-698-7508
Senator Norment, Williamsburg area, 804-698-7503
Senator Quayle, Chesapeake area, 804-698-7513
Senator Blevins, Chesapeake area, 804-698-7514
Senator Rerras, Norfolk area, 804-698-7506
Senator Edwards, Roanoke area, 804-698-7521

3. If any of you any contacts in restaurants in Norfolk, especially
any Greek restaurants, have them call Senator Rerras and ask him to
support the substitute SB597 that allows permit holders to carry
concealed in their restaurant as long as they are not consuming
alcohol. Your efforts on this would be greatly appreciated!

4. If you are a member of any other lists, clubs, etc. get the word
out (especially those of you in the Tidewater area - Virginia Beach
Rifle and Pistol Club, Lafayette Rifle and Pistol Club, etc). (I
will put this up on packing.org) We want to flood the committee and
Senate with support!

Apple, two things...

1. The initial mail referenced the wrong bill, I went back and edited my post, so if you referenced any # besides SB579, you may want to re-send.

2. Since you are in the Tidewater region, you should call and irritate some folks tomorrow during business hours. :)

Done. Hope they don't mind somebody under 21 mailing concerning a bill about alcohol AND handguns! :D

Somebody educate me, QUICK! I'm new to Virginia. I'm in the Ashburn area. What's this about and what are these "major concessions" that we've made?

I'm not willing to support ANY bill that gives up more of our freedom. We've had far too many of those already. I'm willing to support any bill that takes back SOME of our freedom, even if it doesn't go far enough.

That's how the antis got where they are - one piece at a time.

Quartus, my first recommendation to you is to join the VCDL and subscribe to their internet email update. (Details at http://www.vcdl.org/)

The major concessions that have been made are numerous and pretty much par for the course in a lot of states. Things like no concealed carry in any establishment that serves alcohol for on-premeses consumption, etc. Too many for me to go into.

That's why I would hope you'd email and support this bill, it is trying to GET BACK rights that were sold up the river in 1995 with the advent of shall issue in the state of VA.

e-mails sent, via the VCDL Legislative Tracking webpage.

The page needs a good District map to make it easier to find in what district one is located, and what Delegate (mis)represents that district.:D

Cool Hand: good point, I'll irritate the guys at the next meeting about it. The email w/ one click thing is new, so they are making improvements.

Jayman:

a sugggestion for an otherwise great webpage: the e-mail page is a little confusing to use at first, it isn't quickly apparent that all the fields have to be filled in, or what goes on each line. The information at the left hand side of the screen could be moved over to the right so that each line is immediately next to the field that is to be filled in.

Cool Hand: you could always email them and let them know, it'll be faster than telling me. ;) (I'm just a member, not their webmaster or anything.)

Smurf: they've ammended it, thus the need to state that you want to support the REVISED one. :)

Jayman,
I'm still laughing. I'd just sent off both emails before logging on to THR... the one with the wrong number and the corrected version.
Maybe I should start opening the VCDL alerts in reverse order ;)
Well, as my brother would say when he dropped a bag of potato chips, now there are twice as many.
There is a list of rep's somewhere on the site isn't there? I tried to download the .pdf files but for some reason it wouldn't work. I'll have to try again.

Jayman, thanks for the link. I'll get right on it.

After I get some sleep. Spent the last 2 nights in the hospital, getting a little girl born. She was a bit stubborn, but Mom won. "Yer outta there!" :D

Another future Constitutional voter coming up!

Hmmm. IF we still have the right to vote by then.
