"It's funny that I do not see defending against a tyrannical government as a reason to have a gun."

I suppose we take that for granted here in Virginia. Our view on tyranny is right there on the state seal. Note the crown on the ground off to the side.

Sic Semper Tyrannis

"Thus Always to Tyrants" - adopted in 1776.

I agree with posts 23 and 24. Those pages subtly introduce a negative bias that may have not been intentional, but is there in the final effort. Requesting a revision to those pages to remove the negative bias to be more balanced would be the revision I would request.

This is anti-gun teaching material. It really shows its' intent at the 4th grade level, but there are subtle hints and clues in the previous levels.

Better a black out than this crap.

kidshealth.org/parent/firstaid_safe/home/gun_safety.html has this on the front page " Community "buy-back" or "amnesty" days are another disposal option. These programs allow people to bring unwanted guns to a designated place where they will be made unusable. To find out if your community hosts such a program, contact your local police department — but don't wait until such a program becomes available to dispose of an unwanted firearm."

Many individuals within a community carry guns. Students need to understand which
community members may publicly carry guns. The Code of Virginia at § 18.2-308 states that those
who can carry a gun for their occupation or recreation include law-enforcement officers, licensed
security guards, and military personnel in the performance of their lawful duties, or any person having
a valid concealed handgun permit or any person engaged in lawful hunting or lawful recreational
shooting activities at an established shooting range or shooting contest
I'm not sure who did the research for this statement. Article 18.2-308 states nothing about any of this, its Article 18.2-287.4, in specific cities and counties, with specific firearms only. Article 18.2-308 pertains to Personal protection; carrying Concealed Weapons; when lawful to carry. It also pertains to a permit to conceal a "Handgun" as well as other provisions for concealment.
