Hey guys, as some of you may have seen I am working on a new AR build, and I wanted to see if anyone has used the VLTOR A5 Buffer tube and recoil components. This is essentially an A2 length buffer tube, that allows the use of an A2 length spring and VLTOR's proprietary buffer, this also makes it a 7 position vs. 6 position stock. I have been reading that this makes the rifle cycle more reliably and smoothly, especially with a piston upper. My build will utilize an SR 556 upper so I was thinking this tube with the heavy buffer and A2 spring would work well. I would also like to know if there will be a problem using a stock other then VLTOR's, because I already selected the stock I like.

i recently put one on my latest build and i have to say, its really smooth in cycling the action. i bought the A5 setup from pk firearms, which has the buffer tube, A5 buffer, and spring. i have a magpul acs stock on there right now, and i've tried it with a sopmod, with no issues with either. the only issue i've heard of with the a5 system is when you use a normal length stock, it doesn't collapse all the way due to the extra length, but it doesnt affect the performance at all. hope that helps

Cool, I was thinking it would be smother with the piston. I have been reading that the piston uppers tend to be a bit rougher on the action.
