I'm shopping around for a scope to put on an M1A. I want to spend under $500 and was looking at the various Bushnell and Leupold scopes in that range. Then I came across the Vortex line. I didn't see much mention of them in the forums and don't know anything about them myself.

Can anyone comment on their quality?

I'm looking for a scope with >12x magnification.

The Diamondback, 3-9x40, just won a comparison test of scopes under $200 over at Opticstalk.com.

The consensus thus far, is that they are optically superior to their competition in a given price range. It appears to be a Wisconsin design house using a Phillipines manufacturer (similar setup as Nikon) with glass of unknown origin.

I think there is a dude here, who has been a gundealer who knows a bit about these scopes. Hope he chimes in here, but if IRW, he has a very good opinion about them.

Well this is a surprise. I was expecting mostly posts that sang the praises of other scopes more than provided any information about these. I'll have to really look into this brand before I buy anything.

For some reason, Vortex scopes don't seem to get the recognition that they deserve. The Viper line consistently gets ranked very highly. Higher than Burris Fullfields, Nikon Buckmasters, Leupold VX-IIIs.

Of the low priced scopes they are some of the best. I would rather have an Aimpoint or even an Eotech, but for the money they are good.

The OP is asking about scope and you are comparing the StrikeFire to the Aimpoint???

I have a few optics from Vortex. The CS you will get from Vortex is top notch. I am waiting on the new Viper PST line.

The Viper 6.5x20x50 is a nice scope. I have that model in a MD...you get a lot of scope for the money.

I think he was just infering that his vortex strikefire was a quality optic but not in the same league as a comparable aimpoint and ill agree totaly and as far as i can see it is a legitimate post. It is a post consering the quality of vortex products.

I predict that Vortex prices will be going up steeply in the next few years as their quality is recognized.

If you want more info about them, take a look at the Liberty Optics web site. They are a Vortex dealer and so are biased but make MANY good points about the optics.
