VZ 58 mag problems

I have bought a couple of those 4 packs of VZ 58 mags a few months ago. I went to load them for a range session and two of the mags, which are in very good shape, will not hold 30 rounds. They get to about 21-23 or so and then it gets REALLY hard to get any more rounds in. If I really push i cant get maybe 26 but they are in there so tight it is impossible to chamber them and almost impossible to get them out by hand. What is causing this problem?

Have you disassembled the mags and found anything off? Maybe compare the guts to a known good mag.

Put your thumb over the top and bounce the floor plate on the range bench a couple times. Add rounds until it tightens up again and repeat until you are fully loaded.

I had taken them apart to clean some grease out of them and they look the same as my functional mags.

Are the springs the same length? I had one in which the spring was shorter than a spring for the ten round mag. I have a few that were really dirty on the inside. Had a couple with bent followers.
I have enough to last but first thing I did when they arrived was take them apart. Had one that looked like it had been under water for a while.
Surplus stuff needs close examination.
