I know, I know, another bloody Wal*Mart thread.
With a difference.
We have one WallyWorld in Reno, NV that doesn't carry guns. (All the others do. This one used to, but they screwed up some paperwork and lost their FFL for a year or so, and when their time-out was up, corporate didn't want to re-equip them.)
So, in the best tradition of "making lemonade" their store manager has made a point of keeping ammo in stock at excellent prices, and even shopping for more obscure packaging to improve his edge there.
That keeps people like me coming back.
He also makes sure they keep optics and such other accessories on the shelves. He'd prefer to carry actual guns, but he hasn't won that battle yet.
Which brings me to the other thing.
I went in there a couple of days ago to get some replacement ammo (after the range trip with my daughter) and noticed that they have some fairly decent (mass produced, but good names) knives in stock in blister packs, and at better prices than I've seen anywhere else in town.
Now, I haven't surveyed all the other WallyWorld stores to see if they have the same stock at the same prices, but it strikes me that there may be others.
For example, Buck 110 (folding hunter) for under $30. Nearest price anywhere else in town, more like $40 or $45. They've got the Leatherman Wave for around $60 rather than $70 or $75. And Gerber and Kershaw and so on.
All at prices substantially below other sporting goods outlets.
So, if you're looking to pick up some presents for the grandkids (like I am) or just a couple of decent blades at reasonable prices, check your local WallyWorld's sports section and see if they, too, are doing that.
You can never have too many blades around.
