Walther P99 QA? or AS?

I have been looking to get a new pistol and was looking at the Walther P99's. They just seem like great guns all around. Never had the chance to shoot one but from what I read it seems like a pistol that would fit me well. After shooting some others such as Sig, S&W, Glock, and Ruger I'd like to try something different. I was looking to get one in 40 S&W. I found a guy locally selling one for a price that seemed fair and it is the QA model. I just wanted to hear some feedback and see if anyone can persuade me to the QA vs the AS or the other way around. Any drawbacks to either? I do understand how the two triggers differ I'm just curious of others viewpoint and reasoning behind why they like a particular one over the other. Most likely it will be used as a carry piece at some point if that changes opinions on the trigger model.

If you like a trigger like an XD, Glock, M&P get the QA.

If you like a more traditional DA/SA like a CZ, Sig, H&K get the AS.

Both triggers have their fans and detractors, I have the QA and a PPS which is basically the same as the QA trigger and am very happy with my purchases.

You can safely put a glock 5.5 spring in the Walther P99 QA. This will make the pull less weight.

QA is no longer in production for the US. They were the least desirable P99's. That is is a .40 as well...it should be discounted accordingly.

AS is about the cat's meow for any trigger on the market.

When you hear about how great the PPQ's trigger is (PPQ replaced the QA) realize that AS single action is lighter in weight.

I'm still curious to hear what others have to say. I'd like to compare them but I can't find anyone that has a P99. So I guess the thing to do is just go look at the one this guy has and decide. Is there another walther pistol that has the AS trigger that I could go look at and compare to the QA?

I've never shot the QA, so I can't compare them. I own an AS and I love it. It is a great pistol.

Same here, never shot a QA, own two P99 AS's, one in 9, one in .40. Really like both of them.

I have the P99 with the AS trigger and it breaks crisp and its buttery smooth. The best trigger I've ever pulled, I highly recommend. Its been so long since I've fired a P99 QA trigger but I do remember it was a consistant and shorter pull.

The P99 (first gen), P99AS, and P99cAS are the only Walther pistols to use the Anti-Stress (AS) trigger system.

There are variants of the Smith & Wesson SW99 (a P99 clone) that use the AS trigger, and well as the Magnum Research MR Eagle (another P99 clone).

Regardless, if you are buying a P99, you want the AS trigger.

If you must have a constant trigger pull, get the Walther PPQ instead of the P99QA. It has a much nicer trigger. Personally, though, I feel the AS is better yet than the PPQ, and it's a better trigger system for carry.

I didn't respond earlier, as I haven't even picked up a QA, much less fired one.

I will say the P99AS is one of the finest pistols I've handled and fired; it fits my hand like an extension of my arm, and a trigger smoth enough to barely notice on the firing line at the range.

One thing to note when people say the Walther AS is the best SA/DA (you don't have to use double action (like any da/sa trigger)) they usually come from a high pedigree of gun ownership like Sig, HK, etc.

I don't think the same can be said when people say, "the ruger SR9 has the best trigger I have ever shot." Look at the wealth of guns fired to back up the statement.

I have both an AS and QA. If I could only have one it would be the AS. The QA is in my opinion somewhat underrated, but folks seem to know what they like. What makes the QA underrated to me is based upon how much the QA trigger can be improved by installing (a five minute job if you take your time) a Glock 5.5 pound striker spring. The pull is much lighter and more crisp. To me it makes a world of difference.

The AS trigger is unique, but in a high stress situation I have some doubts about how "anti-stress" it really is. I find the QA probably more desirable in a self-defense situation, but that's just me. Overall the AS trigger is cool beans. I have an AS in my full size and the QA in my compact.

I've contacted all the gun stores locally and nobody has any P99's. The one guy says the only thing he can get me is a PPQ. Gander said they can only special order me a 40 in a QA. I don't know why they are so hard to get. I looked online and buds gun shop is out of stock. Are theses highly unpopular or are they starting to do away with the P99 for a newer model?
If this is the case I may go pick up the one somebody has for sale locally. He is only asking $425 for the gun,case, two mags, blackhawk holster and a rail mounted flashlight (could care less about the flashlight)

I don't know why they are so hard to get.

New Walthers typically come into the country once or twice a year in large batches and then they get hard to find for a while. My guess is that all stock has dried up for a while due to the current panic and holiday sales. Also, Walther is in the middle of transitioning from using Smith & Wesson as their importer to importing the pistols themselves under the name Walther Arms. http://www.waltherarms.com/

I went to a local gun store tonight and it wasn't so busy and I got waited on and they had a P99 on the back with the AS trigger but I didn't like it. The pu is way to long for me. I loved the way the gun felt but I don't like that real long pull. It feels similar to my sig p226. Maybe I'll just take out the sig and see if I get used to/like the long pull. Who knows it may grow on me. I like the shorter pull of the M&P. it's just for some reason I can't hit the side of the barn with M&P. I do fine with other pistols just something about me and that particular gun.
