Thanks to James Lenaburg and Dr. Ken Lunde for this info! I've been waiting for a Walther P99 compact :D

http://www.gunfaqs.org/P99FAQ/VIII/7.html

"Glock" finish, fiberglass reinforced tupperware, nice slide release, choice of 3 triggers, vertical mag release... nice slide serrations! Adjustable grip plates.... Hmmmm... adjustable sights.... chamber indicator... Looks like a modified SW99 eh?

but... fatter than a DOUBLE STACK .45 G30????? (1.3" wide vs 1.27"G30) Aaaaack!! Typo??? Must be measured differently? The 9mm will be 9+1, but the .40 will be only 8+1? The G27 squeezed 9+1 in there. I thought with metal mags of the P99c would make it not-as-wide as the polymer-magged Glocks.

Anyone handle these yet? Comments? Evil rumors? :scrutiny:

hi,
I have handled one _early_ prototype last year IWA exhibiton in Nurnberg.

The grip is much better than on the blocky Glock subcompacts. The info was, that this model is entirely made in germany, not only a "labeled" SW-products, so I think the reliabilty could be higher.

Oh oh oh, I want! Finally, they are coming out!

Maybe I will buy one for my wife so it can match her full size one. Or, buy it for myself and let her share it.

The width is probably measured from the widest part, which would be the ambi slide stop lever. I handled one, and the grip is just as thin as a standard P99. The dimensions are very close to that of the G26/G27/G33. The magazine capacity is 10+1 for 9mm. It is a nice little pistol. It may be another year until the .40 Auto version is available. Given its low weight, 18.7 ounces, which is lighter than a subcompact Glock, I plan to buy only a 9mm one (or two).

I also had a chance to try out the QA (Quick Action) trigger, and honestly didn't care for it. The trigger reset was significantly longer than that of the AS (Anti Stress, aka SA/DA) trigger, which I prefer.

Ah thanks again for the info lunde :D

I'd prefer the .40, but geez I can't wait a whole year. A 9 will have to do then. I really hope these turn out well - looks like Walther is getting back on track! :)

I know this is subjective, but isn't that thing a little ugly? I'd like to see whether the P2000 compact is more or less popular. I like the P99 but I think I'll pass on the Walther Compact.
