Spotted a like new Walther PP .22lr in a pawn shop yesterday. Gun is made in W. Germany, comes with two mags and in box. Excellent to new condition.

I've never seen a Walther PP .22lr, so I really don't know anything about them.

What is this gun worth?

Are they any good?

Look forward to your responses.

Thanks,
Steve

I paid $325 for mine, but it was not in as good condition. There is one at the San Antonio gun show for $500 in the condition you describe, but it is just sitting there. I would guess between $400-$450 it would move.

These old Walther PP's seem to show up on American shores in waves. I got a mint condition .32 Auto (European 7.65 cal.) in the late 1980's for $165 (a German Police trade in). The same thing seems to be showing up in local shops for around here for $300 now days. I don't doubt that the early Walther PP's were made in .22 - but I've only seen them in .32 though.

Keep in mind that there were NO German made Walthers between 1945 and about 1975 - they were all French made in this period.

If it's a .22 - in good condition and at a reasonable price - I'd get it. Just for the fun and cheap ammo factor - since the more abundant .32's are more expensive to shoot.

If you want a .32 for serious work - there are many better modern options available. If you want a fun & cool looking .22 - go for it.

The PP in .22 is one fun gun. It is small enough to carry in the jacket pocket when in the woods and offers low price plinking. Accuracy is excellent and trigger pull is superb. I would stick to standard velocity ammo, though, if possible, or unless the manual says otherwise.

One difference from the .32/380 is that the .22 has no loaded chamber indicator. The slide is also lightened.

Last year's Blue Book gives the NIB price for a post-war gun as $925(!!!), only a little less than the pre-war at $995. I don't know that I would pay that, but it is something of an awakening.
