Well, I went and did it....I bought one of the pistols I called ugly in another thread. I just couldn't resist the temptation as it was a lightly used one that was a true bargain at only $325. It is a BD date code, so it isn't very old and appeared to be shot VERY little.

It cleaned up very well and I was surprised to see it was hammer operated and not striker fired like the PPQ. The hammer is quite recessed so it is nearly impossible to snag on something and it has no serrations at all. The only time you even notice it is when you are pulling the trigger.

The trigger feels a lot like the light LEM I have on a couple of my HK's. Nice smooth pull with a clean break. I haven't shot it yet as I just got it but expect it will be as reliable as my M1 PPQ.

I don't care for the button magazine release, but I have other pistols that operate that way and they work just fine. I just prefer the HK style paddles. The threaded barrel was what did it for me. I figured it couldn't hurt to have another 9mm at that price that could be suppressed.

The sights are standard 3-dot and are steel, unlike the plastic PPQ sights. The guide rod is plastic and looks quite similar to that of the PPQ. This one field strips nearly identically to the PPQ as well which is very easy and fast.

All in all I am pleased, we shall see how it shoots at some point in the near future.

I would buy it at that price. I once said I would never own a Beretta Storm Subcompact. I thought it was the definition of ugly. Well I got one in a trade and love the way it shoots. It has become my primary SD gun. Go figure

So, I took the Walther to the range today and put 50 rounds of NATO white box 9mm through it.

A few things I noticed....it shoots very well, the hammer action is very much like an HK light LEM. A guy who picked it up to fondle it remarked at how light it was and I agree, it is very light for its size. I shot it pretty well and it points quite instinctively for me.

There were zero malfunctions of any kind and the ejection was very consistent at 4:00 and 10 feet.

Below is the target data in case anyone is interested. It is definitely a keeper for the price paid and I'm surprised at how well it shoots.

I was just reading about the new Walthers, good info.

The more I look at the PPX, the more I see how close Walther came to knocking it out of the park, as far as budget semi-autos go. All it needed was was a little more refinement - a lower bore axis, less-awkward grip shape, and a proper paddle mag release. The ability to take P99/PPQ mags would have been icing on the cake. But for me right now, it's a bit of a missed opportunity. However, I'm sure it will prove to be a well-made and reliable pistol, like all other Ulm Walthers.

Looks like you got a nice pistol, especially for the price you paid. It is different looking but that is second to it's shooting qualities in my book. Does the threaded barrel come standard?

Yes it does with this model. There are other variants that do not.

I purchased a ppx last fall. Having some issues with some ammo. Anyone else with the same problem?
