Want a DA 45LC or should I settle for the 44Mag?

I already reload for my SA 45LC and like the low pressures the LC produces. I would like to stick with a S&W but I know they are limited to the M25 and Mountain Gun (if you can find either). I'd love it if they made a 5" full lug like the 629, but they don't.

My other option is to get a 629 in 44mag and just get setup to reload 44mag and 44Spl. More cost, more components but a great round as well.

No hate for Ruger, the Redhawks just don't feel right in my hand. The Super RH is just too damn ugly to spend money on (IMO). But more than anything I just love my S&W triggers.

So what should I do?
Too ugly to buy? Wow, you are hurting me man.

I LOVE my Ruger SRH in .44 magnum and part of its "beauty" is how well it handles the hottest loads. You can't top the Ruger SRH in performance. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder for sure.

I have to laugh at the statement about a SRH being "ugly". Well, all of my handguns are named. The SRH looks kind of out place with the S&W's and DW's in the safe, so I named it, "Brunnhilde".

I bet you like mannish women, too.:D

I'd like a Redhawk with the 4" barrel -- and I'd change the grips. The Hogue grip with the reverse curve on the bottom looks fugly.

HA! I mean no disrespect to anyone who owns a SRH. I get function over fashion and usually follow it. But my preference in feel is for S&W. This could change over time but it hasn't yet.

Thanks for all the replies, good discussion.

I don't know your age. I have had a hand reloader(it takes two hands) for about 5 years. Knowing what I know now, buy a single stage from Lee's and clamp it to a portable work bench. It is a much more efficient use of your energy/space. I am 61 and wish that is what I'e done 5 years ago.

Just put a Ruger Redhawk in 45 colt on layaway today. it is stainless with a 5.5" barrel. This has been my grail gun for a while. I am happy as a clam :)

Congratulations on finding your treasure, Tennjed.

LOL.

Thanks Lost Sheep. I like that Steve Martin tidbit. I am a big fan of his.

While I love the lines and workmanship I have seen on many a Smith, I am one of the tank drivers. I started out hunting with my 3 screw flat top in 41 mag and quickly saw the issues related to a blued revolver in the dirt and dust I hunt in.

while keeping the internals clean isn't a big deal, the talc like sand and dust which seemingly covers everything when riding the tractor or 4 wheeler on the country place, has no mercy on the finish of a fine revolver in a snug holster.

With the Redhawk's it hasn't been an issue for the past 25 years and I have been happily rewarded time and time again with their performance.

Don't dispair -- get your single stage (a turret would be better) and relegate your hand press to your portable reloading kit. Use it to work up loads at the range, and do your volume reloading on the new press.
