I am looking (perhaps) to buy a luger that my Dad sold in Ohio in the 1960's. He had my uncle purchase it from a G.I. during WW2. My uncle served in the navy on LST's during the invasion of Sicily and Italy. I still have the original letter from my uncle to my Dad telling him that it would cost $50.00. He also sent my Dad a silver(?),"officers flask," which I still own. It is embossed with Diana and the gods and about 4 inches round in diameter and would probly hold about eight ounces.
As I recall, this luger was in excellant condition on one side, but when turned over had heavy blood rust damage. I recall that it was stamped 1939 and was probly standard issue. All numbers matched, but I don't recall if the magazine was stamped or not. My Dad has since passed and I would like to purchase it. I still have a slug that I fired in the sixties to verify that it is the correct pistol as I am not interested in a luger otherwise. Note: Shot nice (accurate) but had a tendency to jam, which may have screwed the previous owner. i.e. blood rust.
As a final footnote, my Dad hunted for years with a sporterized Mauser Model 98 that is now in my possession, that is stamped with Eagles with the swastica below it. I wish I remembered where he got it.
I realize chances are slim as to locating this weapon, but every journey starts with the first step. Please e-mail me if you think you have or know the location of this pistol. Thanx
