this one is for a good customer. he wanted a Warthog with a very dark finish with light highlights and a dark handle material. this one is W2 tool steel with black micarta scales. the wrap is black hemp cord. the finish is a super dark Crime Scene finish. this one also has my Recurve grind line. i don't do it often, because it is a pain to get right. the grind line has two distinct curves and it is hard to get both sides just right. i was just in a good grinding mood that day.

How do you feel W2's edge-holding compares to 1095? I know Sam really liked working with W2, too...

i cannot tell any appreciable difference in edge holding ability between the two. given that they are both heat treated properly. i work with 1095 quite a bit as well. i think it is a great steel, but it does seem to be the "popular" carbon steel at the moment. these things ebb and flow. my all time favorite steel is probably 5160 alloy. just a great all around steel. of course, makers tend to develop their favorites over many years. i used to really prefer O-1 tool steel for most knives. it is a monster when the heat treat is done well.
