Wearing body armour to the range?

Im sure there are lots of people shot every day that would have benefited from having armor on. And even more people would benefit from wearing helmets while driving their vehicle. But how practical is it? This sounds like gov't. If it would save one life we need to do it mentality.

What sounds like what?

If I posted a link to an incident where somebody was attacked and stated that it was an example of somebody who may have benefited from carrying a concealed firearm, would you respond that it sounds like a gov't mentality?

May have what?

Based on the details in the provided link, I vote this "Most Inane Post Ever".

It's just a topic for potential discussion/conversation.

Generally the way I, personally, handle topics I consider silly or useless...is to move on to another thread that interests me more. ;o)

You asked a good question. "How practical is it?"

Have you worn concealable body armour before?

As for wearing a helmet while driving a car...have you done that before? In my opinion, based on my experience, which includes driving a car on a racetrack while wearing a helmet...you would probably be worse off if you wore a helmet in your car. The limitation on your hearing, and your vision/field of view, and your ability to move your head to look around, is substantial and would, IMO, greatly increase the average person's likelihood of being involved in an accident.

body armor maybe....but still doesn't justify those few out there that feel compelled to wear military-spec BDUs and bring their buddy as a spotter yelling "send it" on the 100 yard line.

The wording of the title and first sentence sounds that way. Sorry if I assumed and came across strong. That's one that gets under my skin. Apparently though you didn't mean it that way and I read between the lines something that wasn't there. I would like to know what happened when it comes out.

"Authorities haven’t released details about whether the man shot himself or if someone else was involved.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Jefferson Monroe Fire Department, Linn County Area Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and the Johnson County Medical Examiner.

The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy and determine the cause of death."

First of all the investigation has not been completed to determine whether if this is a self inflicted gun shot or other causes, i.e. accident or murder.

Second body armor generally only protects the chest/back torso area. Depending on the design the sides of the torso may be unprotected.

Third there are many calibers and types of bullets that will easily defeat body armor.

Fourth there are many areas of the body that cannot be protected by body armor such as the head, neck and femoral artery in the thigh which can cause death.

Fifth if you are that concerned about your safety why the heck are you placing yourself in harms way by going to that range?

I have not yet found a range where I can be guaranteed that nobody there will make a mistake, or do something foolish. If you have, I am happy for you, and I suggest you do everything in your power to make sure that your range stays completely foolproof and mistake proof. And criminal proof, in the event that that turns out to be the case here.

That's a golden goose you got there.

Hahaha, bunch of DMR wannabes. Thanks for the laugh. xD
